I’m incredibly proud to be endorsed by former District 7 Councilmember Rigel Robinson!

During his time on Council, Rigel was a tireless advocate for safe streets, transit, and the ferry. I’m honored to have his support as we work to build a more sustainable, accessible Berkeley for everyone.

⚔️ Control over energy infrastructure, compute capacity, cloud services, and semiconductor supply chains increasingly determines technological
competitiveness and geopolitical leverage.

AI systems are placing growing pressure on electricity grids, industrial capacity, and digital infrastructure, while dependence on external technology
providers creates new strategic vulnerabilities for democratic states. AI-enabled influence operations and concentrated digital ecosystems further
increase exposure to manipulation, data control, and infrastructure dependency.

Grid modernization, secure supply chains, long-term energy capacity, and trusted technology ecosystems were identified as critical conditions for
sustaining industrial competitiveness, AI development, and democratic resilience under growing geopolitical pressure.

annual #SpringBreak #ThrowBackThursday !! this time from 2016-2019. this was an exciting era of the Collective where many of our current systems and ideas were developed but before the dramatic interruption of quarantine. you see big events like the remodeling of our floor from the weak faux wood laminate of the nail salon to real industrial grocery store floors, an Open House, the old Collective layout, a video shoot with the @ucb_bnc, a summer board meeting, a lunch w formal City Councilmember @rigelrobinson, and prominent food Collective leaders like now Owner of @chiri_cana Chef Dani Solis, now-Columbia educated Doctor Maggie Li, sibling Board member duo @athenasun___ and Sonia, @julia_lotvin, and so many more !!

we don't just do this work to serve our current community. we push forward this vision of a student-controlled food system to honor the years and years of labor and ingenuity put forth by the students that came before us. this vision runs deep...and we stand on your shoulders!

MLK Celebration in Berkeley was a reminder of how important it is to come together during these times of uncertainty. Dr. King’s words: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

We joined the Bay Area Council for an eye-opening ferry tour, showcasing the intricate dance between urban development and climate resilience. From Heron’s Head Park to Potrero Power Station, we witnessed firsthand the challenges and innovative solutions shaping our city’s waterfront.

Nature-based solutions are the future for our shorelines. Permitting processes can take years, impacting crucial projects. Climate resilience is a top priority for new developments.

As we face rising seas and changing climate, let’s champion smart, resilient development that protects our communities and ecosystems. The future of our bay depends on it! 🌿🏙️

URGENT- 1400 COPS EXPECTED TO START ARRIVING BY 11PM TONIGHT JAN 3

UC Berkeley applied for a second permit, which has a timeline. It states, “site mobilization” starts from 1/4/24 to 1/14/24

Second permit is asking for the removal of trees and street lights!

- Undergrounding of existing overhead power and low voltage (phone, cable) wires on Haste and part of Bowditch
- Tree removal/replacement/new trees in the ROW on Haste, Bowditch, and Dwight
- Street light removal and replacement/possible temporary lights during construction on Haste
- Storm water connections.
- Sanitary sewer connections.
- Off-site ROW improvements, including sidewalks, crosswalks, curb cuts, curb and gutter.
- Parking-related considerations on Haste Street, especially the long term configuration in view of the recent reverse angle parking that has been deployed.- Removal/replacement of appurtenances such as trash cans.

EYES ON PEOPLE’S PARK
Winter Break UC attack plans leaked!

Under covers, police, fire, university and construction vehicles have been circling People’s Park for the last 3 days.

UC Berkeley intends to fence off People’s Park with double-stacked cargo containers and barbed wire. The plans show that UC Berkeley intends to have WEBCOR begin construction on January 4.

We expect a large (500+) police presence TONIGHT. There are unconfirmed rumors the the National Guard may be called in against protestors “if necessary”.

Slide 3&4 are a map that was leaked to a reporter. There is an apparent typo:
Dates should read 1/4/24 and 1/5/24
Circled text on the map shows this map is from 12/13/2023

Watch out for these groups:
* Expert Tree Services Orinda
* WEBCOR
* Pacific States Environmental Contractors
* California Highway Patrol
* California State University Critical Response Unit
* UCPD
* Berkeley PD

Berkeley Police is declining to provide any clarification whether their department will also be providing “mutual aid” to UCPD.
Chief of police, Jen Louis, is conveniently out of office until January 7. At this time, the acting police chief is Captain Kevin Schofield.

We have heard unconfirmed rumors that @berkeleymayor may have lifted the tear gas ban. @electkateharrison released a letter against the use of “less lethal” weapons and tactics against protestors.

Be prepared. Stay aware.
Protect your community and yourself.
