Who said Plyos had to be only for your legs!

Now technically this probably isn’t as fast of a stretch-shortening cycle to be considered a “true” plyometric…

However, the qualities of force generation (to get over the height of the boxes) and force absorption (eccentric control as you accelerate down from a height) can still carryover to your upper body training!

If you aren’t able to do it to a box, or with a full pushup, safely, that is ok! Even just working on an explosive push upwards, no matter how high you get off the ground, is a great start.

Start with trying to lift one palm off the ground lightly, then the entire hand, alternate, and eventually try to float the hands higher and higher! Let’s see what you got!

OVERCOMING ISO FOR BICEP/SHOULDER FLEXION

Overcoming isometrics are extraordinarily beneficial in improving rate of force development and maximal neural output.

Not only that, by selecting your desired fixed range to “overcome” in the isometric hold, you can play around with exactly what position you want to get stronger at.

Whether you lack mobility and are only able to generate a small amount of force, close to your end range for example, or have a specific range where you feel unstable/at risk for injury, as you get more confident in what your intention is you can cater the position to your likening.

And to top it all off, you don’t need much equipment at all! These can done virtually anywhere, just get creative with keeping the rest of your body stable so you can safely stay in a fixed position to produce as much force as possible!

This is a fun one! Attempted single leg but it was pretty messy at the end…will try it fresh for next week!

🏄🏽‍♀️Surfing the force Velocity Curve🏄🏽‍♀️

Speed is not solely trained via drills which display the action of moving with velocity. Speed can also be trained at the biological level. Your tissues ability to handle forces at high velocity, the ability to tension quickly without breaking is a TRAINABLE quality. The body recognizes tension, the musculoskeletal system is one of tensegrity. If components of the body get put under tension rapidly are they able to handle those forces & velocities? Take the famous rubber band example, although a grossly simplified display of what is actually happening within us, it paints a comparable picture. If you slowly pull on two ends of an elastic it will take more time to snap, if you pull quickly it will snap much faster. As I’ve stated before when beginning to build capacity at the tissue level begin isometric ~ loading that rubber band slowly & holding under tension. Unlike a rubber band our connective tissue can grow, thicken & become more robust. We then move to more dynamic loading such as in more conventional lifting moving tissues TO length & returning. As both our biological components and neurological mechanisms begin to develop and gain control we then want to progress to moving under tension at high velocity. This can be an area of training that many do not venture into.
Speed is not only jumping, skipping, drilling (all things I love btw). However, what allows us to exhibit those behaviors on a biological & neurological level? How can we train the subsystems more specifically?
