Banff hotel design, rebuilt around hot water — Rimrock Banff, Emblems Collection (@rimrockbanff ), Banff, Canada, reopened 7 October 2026 with a 9,600-square-foot bathhouse at its centre.

WHAT HAPPENED
Rimrock has reopened as the first Emblems Collection hotel in North America — Accor’s design-led collection for character properties. Owner Oxford Properties closed the resort for a full transformation: 320 rooms, a retained 1993 terraced structure stepping down Sulphur Mountain, and a redesign by Studio Collective.

WHY IT MATTERS
Most mountain hotels treat wellness as a spa floor. Here it is the plan itself — a bathhouse, an active centre and wellness suites arranged as one system, inside a UNESCO landscape where the building is not allowed to shout.

THE DESIGN TAKEAWAY
The core is The Bathhouse: Banff’s first luxury hydrothermal space, open 6am to 10pm — and deliberately not a fixed circuit. Vitality and hot pools, a mountain-facing infinity pool above the treeline, a salt sauna, aromatic steam and glacial plunges, all linked by heated pathways so a Canadian winter doesn’t break the loop. Two rooms handle the senses: the Aurora room, lit like the northern lights, and a suspended meditation room that hangs its loungers toward the view. Upstairs, Wellness Studio suites sit opposite the Bathhouse with Therabody recovery kits and sleep built into the room.

Three decisions do the work: contrast without choreography; the heated path, which makes outdoor bathing a four-season plan; and stillness built as rooms, not corners.

At home: put hot, cold and steam on one short loop, heat the route between them, and give one small room a single job — looking out, quietly.

Save this for the next time a hotel calls a treatment room a wellness concept — or tell us: at home, would you build the circuit first, or the quiet room?

Come along with me for a tour of the newly reimagined Rimrock Banff 🏔️

Perched high above the Bow Valley, this iconic hotel has undergone an incredible transformation, becoming the first Emblems Collection property in North America.
I had the opportunity to explore the newly redesigned suites, beautiful gathering spaces, and incredible new wellness facilities, including that mountainside infinity pool! I’m absolutely obsessed with the design and furniture throughout this property.

As a wedding planner, I’m especially excited about what this transformation means for weddings in the Canadian Rockies.

Stay tuned for Part Two, where I’ll be taking you through the wedding and event spaces!

Parker's Table (☆☆☆☆)
Rimrock Hotel
Banff, Alberta
Morning broke beautifully over breakfast at our picturesque hotel. The meal commenced with flawlessly pulled flat whites, followed by a local triumph—a Saskatoon berry muffin that was pure indulgence. For the main course, a pristine omelette and a rich ham Benedict showcased exemplary culinary technique and impeccably sourced eggs. Throughout, the service was as refined as the plate: polished, gracious, and effortlessly attentive.

It’s so easy to focus on the success stories and celebrations on social media, making it look like every day is a good day even on the days that make it hard to be grateful or joyous. September started out with my grandmother in hospital, receiving end of life care, and ended with her funeral on September 30. Heading into Thanksgiving, I found it hard to be thankful. But exploring the beautiful of Banff, with its pristine lakes and stunning mountains, helped me to recalibrate and recognize how small we are all; and how blessed I am by the opportunities I’ve received, the life I’ve created, and the incredible humans I still have.

Thank you Banff and thank you @bsimkova for bringing me deep in nature.

Grateful to @rimrockbanff for making our stay a destination on its own.

A hometown assignment for Travel + Leisure is up today! It was especially nice to run into the Pawluck sisters, and I’m so pleased I was able to include their words and memories in the piece. Link in bio.

A place for what you bring back with you.

As the peaks fade to silhouette, the hours fill with music, company and the clink of a good evening.
The tone, set.
