Summer Recap Series: ‘96 & ♾️

To know me is to know I’m a Hovenger. Heavy on the HOV.

It’s to know Reasonable Doubt gets spun at least once a week. Its gotten me through long drives, dark times, the good & the bad moods, quite frankly, it has been the soundtrack through everything in between. And depending on what track I’ve got on repeat, you can probably tell exactly what type of time I’m on 😅

• Can’t Knock the Hustle will forever be me & Unc’s cooking anthem.
• I randomly recite the intro to Brooklyn’s Finest like it’s regular conversation because it permanently lives rent-free in my head.
• 22 Two’s and Friend or Foe are still sitting comfortably in my top 10.
• And I’ll die on this hill: Regrets does not get nearly the respect it deserves.

Crazy to think I was 3 years old when this album dropped. I knew nothing about nothing, yet somehow, somewhere along the way, this album became part of my own coming of age.

And then came Yankee Stadium.

Sitting there and watching Reasonable Doubt be performed in its entirety for the first time ever was a full-circle moment I don’t think I could’ve fully understood until I was actually in it. An album I’ve played countless times, an album that has carried me through so many different versions of myself, and I was there the very first time HOV brought the whole thing to life onstage.

From Marcy to the Bronx and somehow into the soundtrack of a little Dutch Caribbean girl’s life decades later. That’s legacy.

Some albums age. Some become classics. This one is forever.

Supported our very much preferred venue space here on Long Island, @suite.1937 as they hosted "Juneteenth Suite Freedom: Open House". Such a creative way to showcase their offerings beyond the space, including a variety of vendors available. From floral arrangements to food to fragrance, this event was FIRE🔥.
