Warning: Unpredictable Behavior in Public 🤪

Today, while out with friends, I did something I’ve never done before: I voiced an issue with my meal to our waitress. Before today, you would NEVER catch me rocking the boat by sending food back. I considered it rude. I mean, who wants to be labeled as a “Karen,” right?

But today, out of dare I say instinct, I thought to myself, “Ya know what? I paid extra to upgrade these sweet potato fries, and cold potatoes are a no-go.”

So I simply said, “Hi, these fries are a little cold.” Without skipping a beat, the waitress said, “I’ll get you some more.”
Sigh of relief. No one smited me, no one screamed in my face (it’s wild where our imagination takes us!). I thought I could congratulate myself on overcoming perfectionism for today. 🥳

I was wrong.

She proceeded to bring me the largest plate of sweet potato waffle fries I have ever seen—and not in a generous way. Cue the awkward.

Every interaction after that was cringeworthy. She didn’t check on us, walked past without eye contact, and the awkward tension was getting louder by the minute.

Eventually, tired of waiting for the check, I (as Captain of boat rocking) went to the front to ask how to pay. She saw me, said, “I can help you,” and started walking back to our table with me in tow.

Immediately, my brain went from empowered authenticity to panicked people pleaser: “I’m sorry, we just weren’t sure how to pay and had been waiting... I mean, we know you’re busy... it’s fine that we were waiting... I’ll shut up now.”
I threw my card on the table, asked my friend to check out for me, and ran to the bathroom.

Yikes, y’all!

Why tell this story? Because apparently people-pleasing is a huge part of how my perfectionism manifests. Perfectionism says, “I have to perform flawlessly to be accepted,” while people-pleasing says, “I have to keep everyone happy so I can be accepted.” And so the cycle continues. Lesson learned.

P.S shout out to @rinilewis, @nicolllaaa_ and Anna for helping me eat my fries!

Find joy in the waiting.

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” - James 1:2-3

Thankful for these recent moments - from fitness activities with run club friends to sweet times with family and our small group. Constantly reminded of God’s goodness.

Crafting stories behind the beans—
from interview setup to final edit 🎥🎞️☕️

Rini’s project was a ton of fun-
The color grading and trying to get the right “vintage” style look was a fun challenge to work through. After several layers of color grading to each clip from each camera, and applying more of an orange and brownish color, and applying a few “film style” overlays, the final edit turned out awesome.

The final edit from the interview setup from each project that I do is one of the most rewarding parts of the whole process.

Thank you again Rini for letting me capture your story.

Go get some coffee at @restoredcoffeeco

&& we are back home!!
the past 3 weeks we have been traveling out of country in Indonesia. i have dear family members that live there and it was a sweet time - as we haven’t seen eachother for 11 years. thank God for giving us that opportunity and time ♡
even though we weren’t working, we definitely had our fair share of coffee. the cafes there are INSANE! one day, when restored opens a brick & mortar, it’ll be like the ones there. in the meantime, enjoy this reel of (some of) the coffees we got at different cafes ◡̈
