A folk band in nature, Status/Non-Status (one of our Pup Picks, curated by @puptheband) is the ongoing musical work of Adam Sturgeon and his collaborators.

Known for a heavier-than-heavy sound, Status/Non-Status have made a name for themselves through relentless touring, intense truth-seeking, and a heart-on-the-sleeve musical output.

Their album ‘Surely Travel’ explores another side of their practice, shifting from the sludgy, heavy sound they’ve been known for toward acoustic songs and narrative-driven lyrics. The album is a travelogue, a series of snapshots rooted in history and landscape, looking forward through the windshield.

Status/Non-Status exists because of a desire to connect communities, particularly Indigenous communities, through art and healing, with putting forth an Indigenous voice in Canada’s musical culture an important driving force for the band.

🎟️ Come discover @statusnonstatus for yourself at SSF, Saturday night at @monarchtavern. Still time to snag passes/tickets (student discount THEFUTURE) at the 🔗!

Rise Carmine exists at the center of a genre-less world. Pulled in all directions by a lifetime of influences and a long flirtation with music school, @risecarmineofficial (aka Liam Colbert) can’t help but write the kind of music that will not be contained by a single set of parameters. It’s an unabashedly eclectic sound equally rooted in 90s indie rock and new-age psychedelia, that dabbles in anything that has a pulse.

Liam writes all the music. He plays all the instruments (save for some drums). He records in his bedroom. This is the only way he knows how to do it.

Latest release ‘Under The Red Light’ is a celebration of things that take place in the shadows - those secret meetings and sweaty unions on grungy club floors - where bodies and whispers and sweat twist and converge under flashes of light. The music is reminiscent of bands like Nine Inch Nails, Royal Blood, and Tame Impala. All set to a soundtrack that would find a home blasting out of dirty club speakers and on festival stages. Lead by driving, pulsing bass lines and soaring vocals, the music is all at once anthemic yet danceable.

Swipe through for a taste and then come hear it live at SSF - catch Rise Carmine at @thebabygtoronto Thursday 24 September and @monarchtavern Saturday 26 September 🙌🙌

Cherry Pick is a Vancouver-based grunge-gaze project led by Cherry and brought to life with a dynamic live band.

Blending the raw energy of grunge with the immersive textures of shoegaze, Cherry Pick crafts a distinct “loud–quiet–loud” sound that thrives on contrast, tension, and emotional release.

With a rapidly growing audience and a reputation for explosive yet intimate performances, the project sits at the intersection of DIY punk ethos and modern alternative rock.

Catch @cherrypick__ Thursday at @thebabygtoronto and Friday at @thedancecave during SSF. Tickets & passes at the 🔗 in bio!
