I can’t believe it’s already time for my Second Annual Celebration of Beautiful Graduating Humans. They’re posing with the bread I like to bake at the end of the year, which I call The Slab. It’s an extremely cheesy focaccia-style bread. I’ve gone through 20 pounds of flour in the last week. In general, y’all keep me from baking as much as I used to because your questions and insights are too good and keep me too busy. Anyway, I digress. 🙂

Class of 2026, what can I say? We explored the fraught history of this country on the eve of its 250th birthday. We considered the concept of the billionaire, the role of the Fed, the landscape of credit and debt, the rise of sports betting and prediction markets, the reality of surveillance pricing, the impact of AI on the workplace, the challenges of negative externalities, the promise of various approaches to renewable energy, the state of literacy and reading in this moment.

I know little with certainty, but here’s something I’m sure of: You’re more than equipped to take on the challenges of the moment you’re inheriting from those who’ve had the reins up to this point. We’ve handed you a range of challenges not of your making. But you’re ready for it.

Keep caring for one another—keep the empathy I’ve seen daily, even when loud voices diminish the concept of kindness. As Mr. A said: Keep showing up.
