POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We had our first truly wet days this season thanks to the nor’easter! Luckily our friends @risolve were able to hang at the farm for a bit on Saturday before the rain. Thank you Seb for the incredible scythe setup and lesson! Excited to practice and put it to the test on crop termination, weeds, etc. across the farm.

And thank you to our pal Fox, who has been donating his time helping out at the farm while he recovers from an ACL injury. He’s been tidying our spaces, sharpening and oiling our tools, cleaning onions, packing boxes and generally making our lives easier as we hobble towards the end of the season!

Sometimes Magazine: Levitation Edition is born! A 20-page Riso zine that’ll spin you right back to the shared dream of last year’s Lev. A fest-exclusive mini mag with fun lil features, interviews, side bars, illustrations, and photos.

We check in with UMO about cassettes, chat with Frankie and the Witch Fingers about the afterlife, ask Upchuck about working with Ty Segall, time-travel with APTBS and Castle Rat, pass through a wormhole with @anginedepoitrine, hear from @tveyemedia @phantastic_lights about conquering viz feats, figure it all out with @alexmaas33 from The Black Angels, and more. This ultra limited run is EXCLUSIVELY available at the Levitation merch booth this weekend, so make sure you grab one before they’re gone!!

Stay til the end to hear Pal tell you a joke!

This season I feel like I am always about to cry either because these little boys are so sweet or because my body is so exhausted. ✌️ It's a good life!

This month has brought us lots of time in any and all water, sounding out new words as Giaco learns to read, chasing after Paolo as he learns to army crawl, a quick trip with a friend to NYC and hanging out with family and friends and enjoying morning outings around town. We've got so much to be thankful for and there's many moments and beloved people around us beyond what these little snippets show. But these snippets are so good, right?!

Flora Figures: A study of Kazumasa Ogawa’s Tree Peony

Kazumasa Ogawa (1860–1929) was one of the most important early Japanese photographers and printers. His 1896 book Some Japanese Flowers featured hand-colored collotype prints of flowers native to Japan. After being photographed and printed, the images were colored by Ogawa himself. Through his hand-coloring, he chose which part of the flower to draw focus to and purposely directed the viewer’s eye.

The algorithms in this book take a single photograph of Ogawa’s and transform it over and over again. We live in a time where tools now generate images from nothing. Pixels that reference no original moment, no flower that actually grew. With this book, I explore manipulation as an alternative to generation. Designed and coded in Baltimore. Printed by @risolve in Pennsylvania.
