/12.21.NM/ In December of 2021 we shot a very ambitious 5 day project out in the salt flats near Twentynine Palms, Ca. At the beginning of the project, I latched onto one of the reference images used in concepting the shoot. It was a photograph of an enormous piece of silver fabric, tied to the fully extended arm of an excavator. The fabric was being inflated by the wind, to a size at least 15 times larger than the excavator itself— creating an enormous solid, floating across the barren desert landscape. It reminded me, the month prior, I had been doing some research and came across a very lightweight (silver) fabric that resembled metal when it moved in the right light. It seemed like a good opportunity to explore it: we stitched together what ended up being a 40’x150’ piece and a 20’x30’ piece. We did our best to make them look good...
