Thanks to @ritualbreaks for inviting me to join them on trumpet last night for an improvised song at their “Groove Bath” performance on the Upper East Side. Darren, Roy, and Cory, thank you for being such genuine and inspiring humans/musicians. I am so excited for the world to hear the music being made by Ritual Breaks! It was a thrill to sit in and jam.

Last night I got to see the new project from some of my favorite musicians: @ritualbreaks is a mind-blowing 3-piece band from my hometown of Nashville, TN. Here’s 3 minutes of highlights from their set last night at @thebitterendnyc. Ritual Breaks is made up of @dkthedrummer + @mitchellcardenas + @coryhalewilliams. Whether you were on oldschool @mutemath fan or just hopping on board now, get on this train!!

1. Cinema Love - Gay, epic and deeeeply tender story about forbidden love. A bit slow at times but worth the payoff.

2. You Exist Too Much - Queer, Coming of age story about a Palestinian-American girl struggling with addiction and a crazy ass mama. Enjoyed this read VERY much.

3. Giovanni’s Room- BAAAABY! This book wore me TF OUT. The language is BONKERS. Romantic, heartbreaking story about the cost of denying who you truly are. I will read again and again.

4. Harriet Tubman Live in Concert- This should be a musical! Fun, funny, and very touching. Hilarious premise of Harriet Tubman wanting to release a hip hop album in modern day and finds a black, queer man to write the project with her. I LOVE @bobthedragqueen and I think he did a fantastic job here. Cant wait to read whatever he writes next!

5. James- No wonder this won the Pulitzer. Required reading for EVERYONE. Witty, brilliant way to turn Huckleberry Finn on its head. I marvled at the deftness of Mr Everett’s pen game in this!

6. Heart The Lover- READ IT IN A DAY. WOOOO! My my babes who want something steamy AND will have you crying by the end. This one is a winner!

7. The Bluest EYE- I AM FOREVER CHANGED. DID LANGUAGE EVEN EXIST BEFORE TONI MORRISON??? I actually barely have the words to sum up its brilliance. I need to read it again before I even begin to run my mouth on this one!
