Through a series of focus group discussions with mothers in North Siargao, led by Master’s Student in International Development, Georgia Schipper, we took time to listen closely to women’s everyday realities.

What we heard was both powerful and deeply familiar. Women carry so much - caring for children and elders, managing households, and often contributing to income, and while many named this as unfair, it is often accepted out of love, duty, and responsibility to family.

Their stories also revealed how community expectations and “chismis” can shape choices, how earning does not always mean full control over income, and how women are often judged by a different standard.

And yet, there is movement. Women are reflecting, questioning, and slowly reshaping what is possible within their families and communities.

Thank you Georgia for listening and shining light on women’s voices, Ali for creating space to calm our nervous system, and especially to all the mothers who shared their thoughts, feelings and beliefs.

These conversations remind us that empowerment begins with listening. By understanding lived experiences, we can build programs and support that honor both the strength women already hold and the realities they navigate every day.

Art moves.

The Collective Net is coming alive with connection, care and compassion. It’s been so beautiful to see many people pausing, reading the stories of women from Siargao and bringing life and voice through art.

If you haven’t come by @kolekbibo yet I hope you do. The “Empowered Women, Empowered World” art movement is on until the end of the month. Share your reflections and creativity. Every piece is an act of listening, understanding and caring. Thank you 🙏🏽🧡

Women Rising 👯‍♀️

On the edge of Siargao, something soft but unshakable begins to lead.
Not through force, but through feeling.
A world where love is authority, where intuition guides,
where care, respect, and a gentle touch shape everything.

Between the coastal rocks of my pink surf house, I’m witnessing the beauty of women rising.
Not loud, not trying to prove anything but just fully there.

I see it in the circles I hold,
in the way women gather, open, soften, remember.
I see it in the local ates, leading through presence,
holding space in quiet, powerful ways.
I see it in the north, so many businesses, so many spaces, held by women,
supported by communities and projects that uplift them.

The women are holding the center.
Rooted, open, deeply listening.

And the masculine…
no longer here to dominate, but to support, to protect, to witness.

It’s not a fight for power.
It’s a gentle return to balance.

Something ancient,
and somehow, we’re all remembering it together.

Look around. The power, love and strength of women transforms lives in the most positive ways.

Women carry communities forward every day - often quietly, often unseen.

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate their voices, their stories, and their power.

We talk about where we still have work to do.

Because when women rise, communities rise with them. 🧡

Thank you ladies for inspiring and uplifting women and the people around you and @just_beavs for creating this expressive reel, and standing with women.
