It's a feat of coordination and planning to organise a girls' weekend with this pair, so we don't cave to bad weather!
.
We left the burgh in pouring rain after work on Friday, only to set up camp on the Kintyre peninsula in glorious sun. We had a bonfire, toasted marshmallows, marvelled over a sea otter, watched the sunset, and bore witness to a freakish march of millions of sandhoppers across the beach!
.
Saturday dawned wet af, but we embraced it, and headed off to the tiny isle of Gigha, hired bikes (e-bikes was our one concession to the weather!), and hit up the twin beaches for a dip. We had the most amazing lunch at the Boathouse, where the lovely staff gave us blankets to warm up with. Then we had the botanic gardens to ourselves, before the ferry back.
.
You might know from my stories/ previous posts, that Jen was diagnosed with stupid cancer around 18mths ago. She signed up to Sir Chris Hoy's Tour de 4 cycling event which raises funds for Stage 4 cancer charities, because that is the kind of legend that she is.
.
She was having a shitty time with some med side effects last week (still is 😭), so Cat and I surprised her by also signing up to be her wing women. It's not something any of us are going to be amazing at, but we are committed to raising as much as possible.
.

Feeling THIS happy tonight... Heidi had her first overnight trial at a kennels, this weekend, and she totally nailed it.
.
Very proud of her, if not slightly put out that she wasn't as excited to see me, as I was to see her 😅.
.
On a different note, saddened to read about the paddleboarding tragedy in Wales this weekend. A sobering reminder how quickly conditions can change, and how dangerous the water environment can be.

Today was our official consultation with the behaviourist we chose, to help us with Heidi.
.
We've already had some brilliant interim advice from her, which genuinely pulled us back from breaking point, so it was exciting to start work "officially" today!
.
The main thing we wanted help with, is Heidi's aggression towards Howie, but also dog reactivity and other more general boisterous puppy stuff.
.
It was an intense session, but the results we already have seen, from a little email advice (Heidi's den/ keeping a house of segregation/ testing and treating for giardia/ more frequent meal times), give us real confidence that this lady is going to help us get it all back together!
.
The living room is now Geneva. A neutral territory, where NO dog gets to be, unless they are behaving impeccably. Shit just got real for all 3 doggos, and especially the humans!... we are to submit regular videos, as well as our homework diary every Sunday for review and comment!
.
It is such a relief to know there are huge improvements to be made, if we put in the work. And we are ready to put in the work 💪

'It’s a grand thing, to get leave to live'

Cat and I (and Daisy Dawg) celebrated the lifting of Scotland's Stay Home rule with a local wildcamp. And it was everything.
.
We lounged in an icy river, under a hot sun (yes, really! In Scotland, in April!); dozed by our tents with Daisy; watched the sun dip behind the mountains; drank prosecco and ate steak, by a fire on the river-bed; we watched the stars come out and multiply; and went to bed with full hearts and bellies, wearing ALL the clothes!
.
Overnight it was well below freezing, and I was worried about Daisy getting cold, so I pulled her onto my sleepmat and cuddled her close all night long... which was super lovely (she normally resists a cuddle), buuuut also massively uncomfortable and I didn't get much sleep 😂
.
We awoke to a heavy frost, and clear skies, packed our frozen stuff, dismantled the fire to leave no trace, and walked back out (witnessing a display between a buzzard and a juvenile golden eagle), stinking of woodsmoke, and happily exhausted.
