We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Sumaira Aasi, nationally recognized expert in Mohs surgery and facial reconstruction, for visiting from Stanford to help instruct our resident Cadaver Lab and serve as guest speaker for Grand Rounds. She gave an incredible lecture, “The Burden of Non-Life Threatening Skin Cancers” that inspired great discussion among our faculty members and residents.

Residents from The Ohio State University and OhioHealth Riverside had an amazing hands-on learning experience from Drs. David Carr, Katie Shahwan, Lindsey Voller-Rotto, and Sumaira Aasi, focusing on nail procedures and complex reconstructive techniques including rotation, advancement, transposition and interpolation flaps.

Thank you to these outstanding mentors for sharing their time, expertise, and passion for education. We are so thankful for the opportunity to learn from you all. And a very special thank you and deep gratitude to the OSU anatomy lab, the donors, and their families who made this learning possible.

Full circle moment! 💌 I had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Maddy Zakeri as my first resident of attendinghood. Bonus that she is my former co-ressie and a current chief! We spent the last 2 weeks working on excisions, laser cases, chemical peels, neuromodulators, peds derm, gen derm, and complex derm too. The future of dermatology is bright with Dr. Zakeri in it!

In June, we said a grateful and bittersweet farewell to our 2025 graduating residents and fellows! To acknowledge their achievements and dedication to our programs, we held numerous recognition events where residents, fellows, faculty, family, and friends gathered to celebrate. Dermatology residency ✅

Hundreds of thousands of hours spent studying over 12 years of college, medical school, and residency. Starting my medical career during one of the worst peaks of the COVID19 pandemic, working 80-90 hours per week sometimes for 26 hours straight in the hospital as an intern. Finally starting my dermatology training and learning to diagnose 3,000+ new diseases in different skin colors and age groups. Building trust with patients during their most vulnerable moments, often due to medical conditions they are unable to hide. Reading pathology slides under the microscope until it became second nature. Attending world renowned conferences with my co-residents and colleagues, returning home with an even greater passion and purpose for this field. Performing hundreds of surgeries, biopsies, injectables, and laser treatments. Signing a contract for my first attending job, where I will have the opportunity to serve the Columbus community.

To say that it has been my greatest privilege is an understatement. Thank you to every person who has been with me on this journey, whether cheering me on every step of the way, checking in when I needed it most, ice cream dates, unforgettable lessons from my mentors, friends & family who always understood there were many days work had to come first, and the lifelong friends I have made within the world of dermatology. It's been an absolute pleasure.
