The last few days will remain with me forever. The brightest minds in one room, united by one purpose: finding better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for our children. We listened as they presented years of research. They challenged one another, built on each other’s findings, asked difficult questions, and shared breakthroughs. Researchers, clinicians and scientists from around the world, representing countless laboratories, all working together because collaboration is how progress happens. There were meaningful conversations, incredible hospitality, plentiful food, Australian wildlife, entertainment, a little magic, and so much hope. But one moment will stay with me forever. A discussion began about offering families different combinations of drugs. There was uncertainty around whether parents would want to pursue treatments with so many unknowns. Some were hesitant to ask. I happened to walk into the room at exactly the right time. An esteemed member of the group nudged me forward, another handed me the microphone, and suddenly the brightest minds in the world turned to listen. I simply said... “One more hug.” That’s what families want. It sounds so simple. Maybe even trivial to some. But one more hug might mean another day.
Another season.
Another Christmas.
A birthday.
The last day of school.
One more family dinner.
One more ordinary moment that becomes extraordinary because you know what it is worth. We don’t want our children sent home simply to make memories if we haven’t first been given every opportunity to fight for their lives. We want the chance to try everything. To know that every possible avenue has been explored. As I looked around that room, one thought kept returning. I wish I had met these experts ten years ago. I wish, if Alegra had to receive her diagnosis, that it had been tomorrow instead of then. Because sitting in that room, listening to these remarkable people challenge each other, inspire each other and relentlessly search for answers, I couldn’t help but believe she would have had more time. Maybe not forever. But perhaps... One more hug.

I wish she was here. I wish she was still laughing, growing, dreaming and living the life she deserved. But because she can’t be, I hold on to the hope that her story, her fight and her legacy will help save someone else’s child. No child should have to die for progress to come. But if her life can help lead researchers closer to answers, closer to treatment, closer to survival — then her impact continues far beyond her time here. She deserved to live. Today, 150 gathered for The Power of Her Heart @deckhousewoolwich A room filled with strength, compassion, intelligence and women willing to listen, learn and carry something bigger than themselves home with them. We heard from incredible panelists who shared their knowledge, experiences and hearts so openly. My hope is that every person who attended left armed not only with information, but with a deeper understanding of childhood brain cancer and a piece of Alegra carried gently within them. As I stood in a room created to celebrate women, I couldn’t help but think about the remarkable woman Alegra had the potential to become. The kind of woman who would have filled spaces with light, kindness, determination and fierce love. A woman with dreams, opinions, purpose and a future that deserved protecting. There is something incredibly powerful about women coming together. When women lead with heart, they create change. They create conversations that matter. They create impact that reaches far beyond one afternoon. Thank you to every person who showed up today, who listened, who supported our mission and who continues to ensure Alegra’s life leaves footprints far bigger than the years she was given.
