Fly Fishing Guide - Farmington River

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Local guide Ben Canino with a great specimen of a brown trout caught recently on a dry fly. This is why we fish and find peace on the water!

New CT Freshwater report is live! Click the link below or website link in our bio to check it out!

Headed into September, we are in great shape for current conditions. Flow on the Farmington is about 228cfs in the permanent TMA, backed by good fishing for most anglers. Headed up this way? Give us a call, stop by the shop, and check in with us. We’re happy to help for your next outing!

We had a great week learning about catching, cleaning, and cooking fish this week with @thelocalflyco and @rivervalleyflyfish. Incredibly grateful for such an amazing community who are willing to teach these skills to our kiddos!!

Local guide Ben Canino with a stunning brown trout on a big Streamer from a weekend high water float trip. Big streamers & high water is a good combo if you like catching big trout. New river report is up, click the website link on our Bio page. FYI, WE WILL BE CLOSED ON TUESDAY 3/17 & WEDNESDAY 3/18, back to normal on Thursday. Tracking is showing that the long awaited new T&T Contact III+ rods in 10’ length only should arrive this afternoon- the 11‘9“ and longer models are still awaiting longer rod tubes and are probably another one to two weeks out from the latest update. River has come way down from the recent high water, but roughly 1.5” of rain in the forecast combined with the last of the snowmelt will push the river up high again for the next couple of days. The Still River drops fast though, and we should be in good shape for the weekend. Riverton will likely stay fishable all week as long as you’re above the Still River. I expect to see them bump up the dam release today, but I don’t think it’ll be a big increase. Riverton was stocked last week from the dam about 4 miles downstream to Whittemore. They will likely stock the New Hartford to Canton section of the river below the C&R from the Wall/219 Bridge down to Canton in the Nepaug River/Town Bridge area. This isn’t a definite, but I’d surprised if they don’t do it at some point this week. Fishing this past Saturday was overall slow for most people, but Sunday the fishing was noticeably better. Bring on Spring! -Torrey.
