Two years after the heartbreak of finding @elderflower_community in ruins. It’s almost like a bad dream at this point. I usually try to stay in the moment and not grieve the past and what it was or could’ve been, because now our community is so much more than I could have ever dreamed!

But it’s okay to remember the hard times too.
With this gorgeous new single by @riverwhyless it feels important to process the grief in a healthy way and, at the same time, be grateful for what we have in each and every moment. Thank you for your beautiful music!

@riverwhyless’ newest track, “One of a Thousand,” is out now in honor of the two year anniversary of Hurricane Helene. The song was born from processing the devastation to their hometown of Asheville, North Carolina. Listen now at the link in our story!

Two years since Helene, and look how far we’ve come.

This community cleared roads, fed neighbors, rebuilt, and kept the music alive when it would have been easy to go quiet. This August, Asheville had 17 stages full of sound because you never stopped showing up for each other.

As promised, a portion of this year’s festival proceeds is being donated to our partners at @wnclonghaul . It honors everything so many of you have already done to help these mountains heal, and it helps with the work still ahead. Recovery isn’t a moment in time; it’s a long haul.

So thank you all for showing up in every way you have, from the front lines to the front row. Here’s to the next verse.

Nights like these are quite special. Meeting new friends, sharing time with incredible artists, and documenting a beautiful, intimate performance somewhere in the middle of it all.

@riverwhyless is a band whose music has closely followed my life, the things I love, and the places I’ve traveled. When I’m developing work for many of my projects, I spend a lot of time on the road with just me and this incredible dog of mine, Buddy. If we’re not sleeping outside in a tent, we’re usually tucked into some questionable little budget hotel. Not because the beautiful hotels aren’t an option, but because there are stories, strange details, and little artifacts of life hidden in those places that I’ve always been drawn to.

Those travels have taken us across the country many times, and River Whyless has been part of the soundtrack through so much of it. There’s something about their music that has always seemed to fit naturally alongside the landscapes, long drives, unfamiliar towns, and experiences I find myself moving through.

Last night was a special one. I had the opportunity to spend time with Halli and Ryan, share stories about travels, art, life, and everything in between, make some new friends, and talk about some exciting possibilities for creating work together in the future. And somewhere amidst all of that, I got to photograph a beautiful, intimate River Whyless show.

Halli and Ryan, thank you for an amazing night. I’m grateful I got to spend some time with y’all, and I’m excited for what we might create together in the future.

Beautiful show.

Great show last night at the @thegreyeagle : @horsefeatherstheband with 3/4 of the member of @riverwhyless as the openers. I always forget how awesome it is to see live music here! We once saw these two perform at the Mothlight in WAVL, many years ago. This felt like visiting old friends!

My husband has suggested that it might have not been the Mothlight but Isis Music Hall…no matter, it was our introduction to River Whyless and it was awesome.
