🟣 TWO NEW PURPLE BELTS AT CBR MMA! 🟣

This morning at our Sunday Gi class, we had the pleasure of awarding Kye and Penders their purple belts. Two very well-deserved promotions and two people we’re incredibly proud to have in our community.

🥋 @kyeba86

Kye is one of the original members of Canberra MMA, joining us when we first opened our doors in Garran.

It’s been fantastic watching his growth on the mats and seeing what an integral part of our little community he’s become.

Like so many of us, Kye juggles plenty of life’s commitments to make time for training. Impressively, he’s also a professional mountain bike rider and has recently launched his own apparel company, @rixe_apparel .

Kye brings a great personality and energy to the mats, backed by a seriously skilled and technical Jiu-Jitsu game. His development over the years has been a pleasure to watch.

Congratulations, mate! 💜

And everyone, keep an eye on @rixe_apparel , with their combat sports line dropping at the end of the month! 🔥

🥋 PENDERS @therealparkmenders

Penders has only been with us for around a year, but arrived having already spent four years at blue belt with a very solid game behind him.

His pressure and passing have always been excellent, but what’s been particularly rewarding is watching Mark really sink his teeth into the more technical aspects of Jiu-Jitsu.

Over the last six months, his game has come along in leaps and bounds. He’s slick and technical on the mats, but there’s also a healthy amount of dawg in him when needed. 😂

We’re excited to see how Mark continues to develop at purple belt and equally excited to have him helping out with our lunchtime classes.

Nice work, mate. Well deserved! 💜

One of the best parts of coaching is watching people grow. Everyone’s journey looks different, but the common thread is showing up, putting in the work and continuing to improve.

Couldn’t be prouder of these two! 🥋

New bike goofin’ with my @santacruzbicycles Nomad 🧽 a snippet of some of the fun I’ve been having getting fitter postpartum, figuring out @srammtb Mavens and reacquainting myself with enduro geo. I called her Nomie and she’s the bloody king of the mountain 👑

One fun fact about me is that I love photography. I did a photography major in college (year 11 & 12 in ACT) back when darkrooms were still a thing - probably one of the last cohorts to do that, though I don’t remember there being computers in our labs so maybe digital phased in a few years after I left.. One of the saddest things to happen to me in college was when my car got stolen and with it, my stepdad’s film camera which he’d lent me. We got the car back but never the camera, and maybe it was having lost a special piece of equipment, or the digitalisation of photography, or just growing older, but after that photography for me felt different. I moved away from photography as a creative outlet but being as addicted to ig as I am, I can’t deny that I love it for the high-quality, interesting photographs and imagery we see here.

Since I only have one full working hand and plenty of time to ponder what my summer might look like while I recover from hand/wrist surgery, I’ve been thinking about how I might stay involved with the people and community I love. My phone being glued to my hand, I went through my camera roll to find photos I’ve taken, which I think are from kinda speccy, to share.

Lord knows I love a side quest and a hyperfixation so I’ve also been YouTubing and letting the targeted ads wash over me for best entry level digital cameras (I’ve been wanting a proper digital camera for a while now, for the pod and for ~cOnTeNt~ which, side bar, why is that such a dirty word??) so who knows, maybe this is my photography era!

To be fair there were rocks in addition to the dirt.. and we did see some snow on a far-off peak. What’s important is that the girls had a bloody good time 🥰

Definitely not mad about the lack of snow meaning we got to spend a few days checking out the trails at Tyrolean! Thanks to everybody who gave us hot tips - turns out all the trails are heaps good, even the green connector track. 11/10 would ride again 😌

Other elements of the girls’ weekend not pictured but enjoyed included (and were not limited to) delicious tacos and margaritas, key lime pie, yoghurt and honey face masks, belly laughs, bro tatties and fancy outfits. We missed you, Influenza A-li!!
