Shoutout to @powell_spr for always getting me right in the gym 💪🔥

A lot of pitchers struggle to find the right approach of training upper body in the weight room, even though it’s an integral part to the engine. Some don’t get enough strength work and focus too much on mobility without strengthening the areas that need to be strong. And some go in there and try to lift the house. Even though there is a time and a place for both of those. It shouldn’t be your routine year round.

It’s important that you’re getting a mixture of both so that you are strengthening WHILE mobilizing so you can “build the engine” as efficiently as possible.

Since I am in a phase right now where I am throwing off the mound 1x a week, it’s important for me to build strength right now that I can translate down the road to create more output in the delivery. 📈

Bullpen Day as I get ready for Tread Pro Day ⚾️🔥

Focuses were staying in the back leg, dropping into the hinge with the “weightless” feel, and keeping a stacked posture throughout the throw.

Felt great at got up to 91 MPH 💪🔥

Working on some sequencing with @lorenzobaseball ‼️

Lorenzo’s hips were struggling to clear in rotation, leading to inefficient energy transfer at release, pulling off, and having arm side misses. But, that wasn’t the root cause. The back leg wasn’t internally rotating at the right time in order to start the rotation of the pelvis, leaving it stuck trying to rotate at release.

The upper half wasn’t getting as much or as aggressive separation as it could be. So we went to the root cause and focused on really over exaggerating rotating the back leg so it clears on time allowing the pelvis to do the same.

As a result?
✅ More energy transferred into the throw by adding
• More separation
• More aggressive rotation started from the ground up
✅ More output North/South
✅ Better Command

HAVING A PLAN ON LIGHT DAYS! ✅🔥

Most pitchers see light days as days to just move the arm and get the minimal amount of work in. But, we can use those light days to actually focus on specific things and get better, while ALSO keeping it light and allowing your body to recover.

I use light days mostly as days to focus on command and feed the competitive side of me that I refer to as “Player 1”. It’s important that we feed that side of our minds each weeks so we don’t dive in too deep to the analytical and thinking side of pitching.

But, I took this day to focus on both. Getting good work in on some mechanical flaws, and also setting aside time to compete against myself. Days like these force you to have to switch from analytical thinking to a competitive game-like mindset.

To recap, I worked on some mechanical drills and feels, command, switching mindsets and the mental game, and challenged myself to compete. That’s a whole lot of stuff put into a day that most pitchers overlook.

Journaling is the MOST underutilized development tool!

Journaling not only gives you an archive of your days to look back on and track progression, but it also gives you an outlet to process your emotions, as well as set goals and build yourself a routine.

Bad game? Journal it.
What went wrong? Why did it end up going that way? What were your emotions? Be honest with yourself to know what needs work done before your next game.

Good game? Journal it.
What made it go well? What did you feel? What was your mindset? Why do you think you had success? Relive what made the game successful.

Both the physical and mental part of the game are present here. You can track your daily goals and progressions while also tracking your thoughts and mindset daily, leading to you having set plan of attack and learning the mindset that allows you to have most success!

Feeling “weightless” when going into the drop phase of the delivery, or in this case catch play, can be a huge cue for guys who struggle to get deep into the hinge, push out of their back leg too early before catching the hinge, or drift down the mound too much before utilizing the hinge.

That weightless feel allows you to
✅ “Catch” the hinge as you get into your drop
✅ Create more force from the ground up going into rotation
✅ Create a more efficient path for your pelvis to rotate
