We took a vacation from our vacation! The only thing better than having a boat is having friends with boats 😂 But seriously, our boat friends are our best friends! We met Glenn & Jasmine at the start of our cruising adventure in 2019 in Georgia and cruised with them in Florida and the Bahamas. They’ve gone full circle and moved aboard a bigger and better sailboat - and we were lucky to join them for a week of sailing around the US Virgin Islands ⛵️Thanks SO much @roamingatlasduo for the best week!

Just like that. My time as Boss of the @cfsnowbirds has come to an end. An opportunity I never saw coming, which turned out to be one of the accomplishments I’m most proud of. The honour of leading a team of world-class professionals, representing 🇨🇦 a nation I’m so proud to call home - an imperfect nation, but one that is wonderfully diverse, compassionate, generous, strong and free - is something I will hold dear to my heart forever. And the support I’ve received from my family @rlhandy @evanhandy9 @grace.handy11 @brian.handy @laura_marley_5 @handyc999 is one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever received. Thank you! The team is in great shape, and I’m proud to hand off the lead to my friend @match_eh who will no doubt add his artistic flair to next years show. We are thrilled to welcome Rebecca to the Studio Orange Team! Rebecca will be making her debut teaching with us during the upcoming October 20-November 28 session ✨

Here are a few words from Rebecca:

With 17 years of experience, I am a personal trainer and fitness instructor dedicated to helping women build a positive and sustainable relationship with their bodies.

My non-diet approach focuses on strength, confidence, and joyful movement rather than chasing a certain body size or number on the scale.

I believe that fitness is a tool for empowerment, not punishment. Let’s shift the focus from what your body looks like to what it can do! Whether your goal is to build strength, increase your energy, or simply find joy in moving again.

I am here to help you navigate the process with compassion, experience, and a judgment-free approach. I can’t wait to see you at the studio!

If you told me, seven years ago, that I’d no longer be flying the Pitts because I was team lead of the @cfsnowbirds I would have told you to check your head! A challenging day in the air with gusty 30 knot winds - but the team made it happen! Huge effort by our maintenance team this week keeping all our aircraft prime and ready to go! Today was our private “Home Opener” show - flown for our closest friends and family before we head out until October. It’s a privilege to represent the @rcaf_arc as a Snowbird pilot, but the hardest part is leaving our families at home for 5 months each summer. This is the life for so many CAF members who sacrifice family time to serve our great nation 🇨🇦 Thank you to all the friends & families who support us on the home front.

Some of you may know - we took a year away from real life to find our real life in 2019/2020.

We sold our house in Canada, quit our jobs, and moved aboard a 42’ sailboat with our kiddos (age 9 & 11 at the time). Our intent was to travel from the US, through the Bahamas to Cuba, and eventually Central America - but alas, we were stopped in our tracks by the pandemic after we landed in Cuba.

As always, it was a blessing in disguise, as we met some of our closest life friends on that part of our journey. A month of playing cat & mouse with the Cuban coast guard before they kindly helped us provision and sent us on our way. We chose to head to Mexico, hoping the border closures would go away, but after waiting another month, we threw in the towel and sailed back to the US where we sold our boat.

Who knew the adventure would bring us back to Saskatchewan and another incredible opportunity for me to lead the @cfsnowbirds aerobatic team! Proof in real life: you never know what adventure lays ahead - you just need to be ready to seize the opportunities when they appear!

Some pictures of a very special day - possibly one of the brightest days of my military career. Last Friday, we flew our ‘Home Closer’ show, a Snowbirds display exclusively for our closest friends and family.

While regulations prevent us from being able to take friends and family flying in military jets, every year, the Snowbirds run a mock briefing with a chosen family member subbing in for a pilot. Then we all strap in, taxi out to the runway, and when we would normally blast down the runway, we taxi back - it’s called an ‘Elephant Walk’ (no, I don’t exactly know why!)

Although it’s so routine for the pilots, this chance for the family to feel and hear what the jet sounds like when strapped into the cockpit is an incredible experience. This year, I was lucky to be able to take my son, @evanhandy9 and the excitement was palpable! We may just have lit the fire for another future RCAF pilot!

Our families carry a huge burden when Snowbird members deploy for 5+ months each and every year. Without the support of our family and friends, our pilots and technicians wouldn’t be able to do the important work, connecting with Canadians and showing them the best of the Canadian Armed Forces.
