Moments from our first Atyk pop-up at @dufte_berlin on October 2nd 🤍

A day filled with music by @sned.music, @luiszink, @rlk18, and @mc_wowweak, a vocal performance by @ank.ann, flowers by @amo___berlin, tattoos and a selection of fashion, vintage, jewelry and independent brands we were so happy to bring together under one roof.

Still processing the day and all the lovely people who made it what it was. Thank you to everyone who came by, took part, and helped bring this idea to life!

See you in December for the next one ♡

The other day my daughter asked me why people are stigmatized because of the music they listen to. She doesn’t listen to techno, but she was also wondering why this happens.

If you tell someone who doesn’t understand this preference that you’re into techno, they’ll often label you a party animal, a drug addict or aggressive, depending on the style. And no, if you’re violent, it has nothing to do with the music. Sorry. There’s also a stigma around techno and addiction, culture and behaviour.
Either way, being treated like a social outcast because of the music you’re passionate about means something is very, very wrong.

Music, and techno in particular, can often quiet anxiety and even anger, channelling them through sound.
It’s not just about going out and partying. It can channel your emotions and regulate them.

This is what it feels like from the inside:
When you’re angry and a kick seems to put that anger in order, all that chaos.

Your head is full and a repetitive sequence manages, for a while, to make the mental noise disappear.

A dark track comes on, but it doesn’t pull you down. It lets you be inside something dark, unknown or challenging without fear and without judgement.

You hear something and an emotion comes up that you didn’t even know was there.

Suddenly you need intensity, not calm. Or calm, not intensity. You have both to choose from.

It helps you disappear for a while and run away from yourself.

A bassline comes in that you weren’t expecting and runs through your body so intensely that, for a few minutes, your body takes over and your mind takes flight.

Your heart falls into the rhythm and you can experience a journey without taking a single substance.

Techno is meditative. It is the body.

“ONE MUST STILL HAVE CHAOS IN ONESELF TO GIVE BIRTH TO A DANCING STAR.”
- Friedrich Nietzsche
