POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Today we concluded another iteration of my @utsarchitecture model making elective, Iconic Houses. I say it every year, but each year the models get better and better, with the quality often exceeding even my skill level of making! I think a lot of this comes down to skills being shared across studios, but also learning by example. This year I was particularly proud of the efforts to ensure sustainability of material use — huge thanks to @utsarchsoc for their materials reuse bay they manage, we used a lot of scrap balsa broken down from unwanted models left in the studios to make the models pictured. I also brought in a box of wires, nice white cards from packaging I’d kept for reuse. There were also a lot of little side quests into making — look carefully and you’ll see recycled handmade paper, made from pulped sheets of studio draft prints and sketches on trace (on the retaining walls in the Seidler House). This year was so calm, no huge rush to our deadline, no big late nights. I am so chuffed that something that started out as a proposition to help students learn to model make post 3 semesters on Zoom during Covid has become an enduring, coveted subject; I love teaching it so, so much. To the students — I’m so incredibly proud of you! Thank you for the gluten free Oreos x
