A HUGE shoutout to RMIT Elite Athlete’s, Michael Parks (Parksy) and Lulu Di Sciascio who will be heading to Croatia this week to compete at the FiSU World Championships for Sailing! The FiSU World University Championships are international, sporting events organized by the International University Sports Federation for elite Student-athletes. This competition is an enormous achievement for our two students Parksy and Lulu! Out of all of Australia only FOUR University students were chosen to represent Australia. Meaning Parksy and Lulu make up HALF of the Australian team!!! On behalf of RMIT University, we would love to formally congratulate you both and say that we couldn’t be prouder! The whole RMIT Redbacks family will be supporting you the entire competition!! You can follow Parksy and Lulu’s journey competing in Croatia via @RMITActive Instagram where we will be posting updates and coverage from their trip! Keen to play? Adaptive sport is coming to RMIT! Ever wanted to get involved in sport but felt like the opportunities weren’t built with you in mind? RMIT Active is starting something new - adaptive sport and we’d love for you to be part of it.   Adaptive sport is all about making sure everyone can get out on the court, field, or pitch, no matter your ability. These activities are designed to accommodate a wide range of disabilities, allowing students with physical, sensory, or cognitive impairments to engage in sport and physical activity. In other words, it’s about making sure everyone has the chance to play.   No prior experience is needed - just enthusiasm and a willingness to give it a go. This opportunity is open to ANY student whether you are someone who identifies with a disability or someone who is just wanting to try out para-sport.   We’re currently collecting expressions of interest, which means this is your chance to help shape what adaptive sport at RMIT looks like. Your voice, feedback, and experiences will directly influence how these opportunities are developed. Ready to get involved? Let us know you’re keen by filling out the expression of interest form and be part of the start of something new at RMIT. Link in bio!!! Stay up to date with all things sport and physical activity at RMIT by following @RMITActive on Instagram.

Today we recognise International Women’s Day and at RMIT Active we want to acknowledge the women who continue to push sport forward. Despite the growth of women’s competitions across the country, inequality in the sports industry still exists. In Australia, women earn around 88 cents for every dollar earned by men across the workforce. In sport, the gap can be even greater. Research shows many elite Australian sportswomen earn between $0 and $20,000 a year from their sport. Visibility is another challenge. In Victoria, only around 20% of sports media coverage is dedicated to women’s sport, while the majority still focuses on men’s competitions. Female athletes are also still experiencing online abuse, discrimination, unequal access to funding, facilities and sponsorship opportunities. Progress is happening…women’s sport in Australia is growing rapidly, drawing record crowds, audiences and participation. But continued support, investment and visibility remain essential. Today and every day, let’s show up, tune in, buy the tickets, wear the jerseys, and back our female athletes because equality in sport starts with us.
