“Jeff - Morning!
Please tell Adrina that the entire climb I could hear her voice whispering: “Engage your core! Squeeze your butt!” Honestly, it helped a lot. Could really feel the strength on the way up.
Also tell the team thank you. In better shape this year and probably would not have summitted without their help.
Cheers,
NP”

No two tree rings are alike. Artist R. Nelson Parrish encases each raw wood cross-section in bioresin, in and around the organic material.

"Vista IV" (image 1)references nature while preserving it. Each panel is its own composition, and the flexible nature of the arrangement allows you to have a hand in the final product. How will you display them?

"Summit" (image 2) takes the same material conversation in a different direction. Where "Vista IV" lays time flat, "Summit" stands it upright, with four sculptural forms sliced and layered, built to let light pass straight through.

Experience time, cross-sectioned, with R. Nelson Parrish's bioresin and wood pieces at the gallery.

𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘧𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘩?

A longitudinal cut from the trunk of a tree, the very first slice off a milled log, raw edge and all.

Santa Barbara artist R. Nelson Parrish sources these cuts from various species of California trees before they’re chipped or processed, then removes cross-sections of the flitch and replaces them with solid cast resin (a process that took him over twelve months to figure out).
The result is something unexpected: hanging sculptures layered in jewel-toned bioresin (composed of polymers extracted from natural resources like plants, sugars, and cellulose).

Each piece inspired by a specific place, a daring hike through Zion, an alpine lake, a sunrise over the Wasatch, designed to take you there.

Experience in person the moment in time that is “The Mile Long Club,” and take this flitch for a spin!

Bold, elemental, and utterly mesmerizing. 💙

R. Nelson Parrish’s sculptural works are born from a meticulous process that layers cast resin, raw wood, volcanic rock, and pigment into sleek, prismatic forms. Each piece is sanded and polished by hand to reveal its inner geometry and glowing translucence, capturing both movement and stillness in one form. These sculptures explore the intersections of nature and modernity, force and finesse.

Trust us, they’re even more stunning in person. 😉

Artist R. Nelson Parrish’s (@boatyardstudios) new body of work is heavily influenced by his recent trip to Japan where he drew great inspiration from the diverse landscapes. Swipe to see the inspiration for “SugarFoot,” featured here.

Parrish is a multi-disciplinary fine artist from Alaska who now lives and works in Southern California. He draws upon his personal experiences as key sources of inspiration to create artworks comprised of disparate materials including bio-resin, pigment, and reclaimed wood. Blurring the boundaries of natural and synthetic, Parrish captures the complex entangled realities of the contemporary landscape.

Bedroom nightstand styling moments. (With photographer reflection in the nightstand mercury mirrored finish.😆) Vintage clamshell film canisters from the 1920s repurposed as lamps. Art tucked in to make the tabletop vignette even more interesting. Fresh flowers against the @portolapaints moody plastered walls, because always - fresh flowers. @traderjoes for the flowers when you're buying the milk and eggs. (Also always.) flair is in the mix! ⚡️ #theflairhunter #mixmaster #interiordesigner #colorlover #vintagehoarder
