Always finding myself getting sentimental on August 29 / 29 August - there is something to be said about finding a home in a place that is so far from some of the people and places you love most

There is something to be said to live somewhere that both rejects you and welcomes you with open arms, that cheers for you with all its people in the wake of a storm. This year has been strange, both difficult and yet so rewarding, I have fallen into a deeper love with my life and the significance of being here, and feel immensely grateful for the people, both near and far, that remind me where home is. Here's to the next 4 years, and the 4 years after that, and all after that, but most importantly the people that make it so special to be present

wow - what a two weeks. i’ve spent a few days reflecting on everything i’ve seen, done, heard - and yet it feels like i’ll never be finished processing everything.

to play, work, move with other young musicians at the beginnings of our careers, and share & receive dialogue and guidance from pros who’ve been involved in this strange and beautiful world for years… what a privilege. thank you everyone, not just for the music, but for all the conversations. i feel inspired in so many ways. thank you bassoon studio for great fun, thank you part songs participants for exploring and sharing your voices, thank you to the two beautiful souls i so happily lived with, thank you to every talk giver, open space holder, workshop leader, everyone i improvised and moved with and listened to and talked with. i really was in my happy place - and i’m not ready to go back to the real world! (though i am excited to have some time to sink my teeth into the insane amount of rep i’ve been given lol)

i often find myself feeling anxiously unfocused in my music practice - and in my identity as a musician - particularly from being classically trained under this pressure to choose your lane and never veer out. but i leave this festival with more confidence that i, a bassoonist with a background in composition and an improvisatory practice (thank you juliet fraser) can find my place. i’m ready to explore further.🦪! thank you darmstadt :) see you in two years!
