A true pleasure to join @robbatesauthor for "Five Questions" on @thejewelrywire .

We talked about my visual art practice, how painting and jewelry intersect, my views on breaking past jewelry’s commodity curse, elevating jewelry to move with culture—and of course, some hidden gems in the conversation as well.

World Jewellery Confederation - CIBJO now recommends replacing ‘lab-grown’ with ‘synthetic’, reigniting a historical nomenclature debate across the diamond trade. But will a new label actually change consumer habits?

Rob Bates of The Jewelry Wire investigates the complex history of lab-grown diamond terminology. Perhaps the real question is how we adopted these terms initially. It's a fair question.

Which Jewelry Price Points Are Growing, and Which Are Declining?

The US diamond jewelry market is splitting along a clear price line.

Below $2,500: Unit sales continue to decline, with weaker demand persisting across the lower price range.

Above $2,500: Higher-priced diamond jewelry is performing much better, with both unit sales and average prices increasing.

The data points to a growing concentration of demand among consumers who are willing to spend more on natural diamond jewelry, and are doing so more frequently.

In this video, from the Diamond Dudes live podcast at VicenzaOro, I look at what is happening below $2,500, why higher price points are driving growth, and what this tells us about the current luxury consumer.
