POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Five years on. A photograph, a memory, and a story that still matters. 🎬

I was sent this beautiful photograph from the red carpet today, and it brought me back to the premiere of The Letters, the award-winning Irish independent film directed by my friend Robbie Walsh.

Robbie asked me to be part of this project as both a producer and an actor, and I remain incredibly proud that I said yes.

The Letters was inspired by the CervicalCheck scandal, a devastating chapter in our country’s history that affected so many women and families. It was a story that needed to be told, not simply to document what happened, but to honour the lives behind the headlines and ensure their experiences were not forgotten.

Making a film like this independently takes an extraordinary amount of belief, determination and generosity. To see what Robbie, our amazing cast, crew and creative team achieved, bringing this story to audiences nationally and internationally, was something truly special.

But beyond the red carpets, the recognition and everything we achieved as independent filmmakers, the real importance of this film has always been its reason for existing.

The women. Their families. Their stories. The need for truth, accountability and compassion.

Five years later, I’m grateful to have played my part in bringing this story to the screen, and proud of everyone who helped make it possible.

Thank you, @rbwlsh , for inviting me on that journey, and to every single person who gave their time, talent and heart to The Letters.

Some films entertain us. Some challenge us. And some remind us why stories must be told.

This one will always mean a great deal to me.

Tenant apartheid is simply unacceptable.
It’s 2026…people can’t be treated like second class citizens.

Since 2001, successive Governments have handed €407 million of public money to the inhumane and unpopular greyhound industry. Next year, greyhound racing will receive over €20 million from the state, up half a million from 2026.

This funding is far and away more than what is being given to the League of Ireland, which has to fight for scraps while GRI is guaranteed a mountain of cash every year in perpetuity.

Over 1.1 million people attended League of Ireland matches last year. Greyhound meets attracted only ⅓ of that number, and yet the Government barely has an interest in investing in Irish football.

It seems very clear to me that it’s simply a case of greyhound lobbyists having Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil by the neck and this industry holding undue influence over public policy.

People in need of public housing should not be denied access to council waiting lists or social housing supports because of outdated and badly designed eligibility rules and thresholds.

For World Animal Day, A Voice for Ireland’s Pigs is asking people to look a little deeper at the life behind the product.

This short film, featuring guest contributor and actress Rachel Pilkington, invites us to pause and think about the individual animal behind the products we see on supermarket shelves, restaurant menus and in our everyday lives.

A message about seeing them, recognising their lives, and remembering that behind every product was a living, feeling animal who mattered. 🐷❤️

Two cancelled surgeries is just shocking. Lee Reeves desperately needs treatment to put him on the road to recovery.

Fireworks

I believe we need a conversation on an all island approach to fireworks, including engagement with the Northern Ireland Executive about how we can better prevent fireworks being brought across the border for illegal resale.

Fireworks are not harmless fun. People can suffer devastating eye, hand and other life changing injuries. They can be fired at pedestrians and cars, cause enormous distress to animals, older people and vulnerable residents, and create additional danger and pressure for Dublin Fire Brigade and our emergency services.

Social media companies also have a responsibility. If illegal fireworks are being advertised or sold on their platforms, take the content down immediately.

Let's deal with the source. Stop the supply before somebody is seriously hurt.

Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael should stop with the commentary and start with the governing. People living with Friedreich’s Ataxia need medicine — not soundbites.

Very unfortunate that this building will be closing tomorrow. The state needs to ensure that this space isn’t lost to the community.
