Last night I witnessed (and was part of) a group of people mourn the closing of a gym. Not because they’re losing the workouts—though they did go out of their way to make sure us coaches know how important we were—but because they’re losing their shared space, their community.

Third spaces matter. More than you think; certainly more than I ever realized.

I think that’s because they’re often a place people seek out, and a place where people can be their truest selves. There are no masks or filters or roles (so to speak). You get to simply be yourself, whatever that may look like on the day.

Especially in this day and age, there are precious few places that offer this.

So whether it’s a gym, yoga studio, pottery class, or anything in between, don’t discount the importance of them. They make a difference, whether you explicitly hear it or not.

once upon a time in Glenwood 🧡🥂💐 my oldest and dearest friend married the love of his life, and I had the honor of standing beside him, in a pink suit, while he did it! Robbie and Caroline’s love for each other radiates, and getting to soak it in with our beautiful friends under the Colorado sun, was pure magic. my heart is still overflowing 💗 wishing them endless love and happiness as they enter this exciting new chapter and can’t wait to continue to watch their love story unfold. you two are magic. i love you both forevers 🌈

Visual delights from my jaunt to Japan earlier this month. Thankful for mary margaret who made this trip possible. Thankful for this whole little swashbuckling crew with whom I hope to have many future adventures.

Very reflective as holidays approach on this past year of my life. I faced the brunt of my saturn return (beginning with a wedding this past may and ending with my performance review at work next february). I moved across the country twice. I let go of a few near decade long friendships. I deepened my relationship with my partner and in so doing deepened my relationship with myself. I fostered so many precious new intimate friendships and new family relationships.

If my law school years were the lowest point in my life, then perhaps I’ve been entering one of the highest. In spite of many uniquely raw and painful challenges, the risks I’ve taken this year bore enormous fruit, and I’m perhaps the happiest I’ve ever been, in no small part thanks to the love I share in my partnership with Gregg. I am so lucky to hold so many intimate relationships so close to my heart as I close out this year. Much love to haters and lovies alike this week, and don’t forget to hmu for recs before your next visit to Tokyo.

Saturday was the most perfect day celebrating your incredible love for each other 🤍 Alyson, you were the most stunning and glamorous bride!!! I was absolutely honored to be your bridesmaid and stand by your side on your special day. Thank you for including me and letting me share in all the special moments along the way!
