There’s something about this place that always makes me feel connected to my New York theater community. Our favorite bartender @robbiewimmer the wonderful Sarah taking care of us, and even an Anna Gasteyer sighting! 🌟😎

And I loved that we were sitting right by the poster for The Pirate Queen, which featured my friend @kimilee_bryant . The show may have had a short Broadway run, but that’s what I love about Joe Allen — every wall holds a piece of Broadway history.

Good friends, great food, theater ghosts, and a little star spotting. Just a perfect New York night. 🎭❤️🍸

The grand finale (not just last night, but the past week and a half since the closing notice) brought together so many people whose lives have been touched by @elmorestaurantnyc over the past 25 years. “What can I do? How can I help?”
 Such is the enduring legacy of my old boss, my sometimes mentor, my always friend, Bob Pontarelli.  To the outside world, elmo is ‘RESTAURANT’ - as loudly stated above its awning. But beyond those storied windows is the heart of a community, beating for 25 years.   If you were lucky enough to have visited once or one hundred times - and luckier still to have worked there, to have grown there, to have found family there - you were part of a singular thread that wove through a quarter century of laughter and sorrow, graduations and failures, promotions and firings, first dates and break-up drinks, weddings and going-aways, Bush then Obama - (Obama!) - addictions, recoveries, deaths and rebirths.

It was a real-life Cheers, where most people knew your name and everybody was welcome – Bob even hired straight people.   “What can I do? How can I help?”  When I first arrived in NYC 22 years ago, I could barely afford to eat and survived on doctored ice coffee. But a special gift of 2004 New York was that you needn’t money to feel a part of it: Chelsea was the literal epicenter of the global gay universe.

Still, walking by elmo triggered pangs - both of hunger and wonder. Fun actually spilled from it, flooding the 7th avenue sidewalk with music, boys – (and their girls) - and over-poured drinks. Longing, but not too bothered by my budget of cottage cheese dinners, I kept going - satisfied to exist within the myth of Chelsea.
 Then, on the 8th avenue catwalk, I was told that elmo was managed by a Canadian and that they were hiring. In 2004, news was shared by the archaic means of face-to-face conversation. Word on the street still had an air of mystery about it and added to the endless possibilities the city promised: maybe he’d give this paperless kid a chance.  I met with Jeff, the Canadian, but the ultimate decision was up to Bob, who hired me despite the legal grey area. What he did and how he helped is everyone’s story with Bob. Though I left elmo in 2006, I ate with him as recently as two weeks ago and we made plans for Portugal in the fall. I think that speaks to how much he means to me.

End of an era. The calm before the Saturday night storm at @elmorestaurantnyc So grateful for the amazing times. Too many shenanigans to count. I turned 40 in the famous basement party room, among other things 👀. Such a place of comfort and community for the #lgbtq diaspora 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈. 25 years is something to cheer about 👏🏻❤️👏🏻 thanks Elmo we will miss you!

I want to give a special shoutout to my friends and family who have taken the time to be there for me after my surgery. Thank you for checking on me, cooking for me (Angela) bringing me snacks (Roberta and Lauren) and for being my whole left arm. I love y’all to the moon and back! July 29th. Happy bday to me! 🎂🎉🎈🥳 These snaps are from the premiere of NOAH’S ARC: THE MOVIE on June 12th in West Hollywood. The video was taken round midnight. So the vibe may be tipsy but the sentiment sincere…grateful. This was a long time coming. I’m proud to say the movie is one of the 5 most watched films on @showtime in the last 5 years & one of the most watched on @paramountplus since its launch in 2021!!! And the views for the series and Jumping The Broom increased 5 times over!!! Thank you to all the fans who’ve stuck with us for over 20 years! Yall did that!!! The last pic in this slide is from today, July 29, 2025– after a glorious spa day with my 3 sisters at @kingspavirginia! Keep streaming the NOAH’S ARC movies and series on @paramountplus! I loved getting the opportunity to choreograph this “Whitney” number for Noah’s ARC:The Movie. Again a big shout out to the dancers, the actors/Queens @kennedyddoftx @therealrodneychester @dynistystjames and my assistant @daniswatziee . In a world where we had more time in the film , this was my edit / dream edit of the scene . We did get pretty close . Also thanks again to @alexanderchinnicidp for your beautiful cinematography . Well done by all!

Harvey Milk was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977.

He was the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California. His win was a landmark event in the LGBTQ+ rights movement, making him an icon within the community.

He was assassinated while in office.

Can anyone tell me why it was necessary for the DoD and Pete Hegseth to have Milk’s name removed from a Naval Ship?

…besides bigotry disguised as anti-DEI policies, of course.

Reminder: The current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Dan Cain, needed a waiver from felon Donald Trump to take over from a history making Black General that was fired to make room for Trump Loyalist Cain, as he did not meet the basic eligibility requirements.
