I took these photos of resident artists Rob Cleworth, Michelle Gearin, and Anthony Luck, who presented 'Elegy' a group exhibition in the Little Space @thecreatorincubator last night.

'Elegy' brings together the works of Rob Cleworth, Michelle Gearin, and Anthony Luck. The paintings in this exhibition form a dialogue about how memory and mourning are dragged through time, tracing what changes in the process of that passage. Elegy invites viewers to dwell in that in-between space, where sorrow, beauty, and endurance coexist.

Go and check out these incredible painters today!
On show: 12 – 22 February

Thank you to everyone who has visited our exhibition.
If you haven’t yet experienced A Kind of Resistance, you have until this Saturday.
The exhibition has been getting rave reviews from quality people and excellent artists. It's really exciting that it is getting such traction, and that it is harnessing a feeling which seems to be on the cusp of a lot of people's consciousness.
I’m delighted to bring these extraordinary artists together, and I hope you can make the effort to see it in real life.
The University Gallery is open Wed-Fri 10-5 and Saturday from 12-4pm.
If you'd like a glass of wine, cup of tea etc etc, DM Doug @mirrored_vacuum, he'll be there this Saturday. #expandedpainting #conceptualart #paintingprocess #contemporaryart #artnow #artexhibition #artcurator

Thank you to @robcleworth and @katedorrough for an excellent artists talk today at University Gallery, Newcastle.
It was fascinating and inspiring to hear these great artists talk about their practices and share time and space with all who came along.
There is nothing like face to face human connection, and today’s talk was incredibly honest, humble and deep.
@jo.dyer.art thank you for keeping the whole thing on track and being a fabulous host, and thanks to @universitygallerynewcastle and Gillian Shaw for the opportunity to curate the exhibition.
Thanks also to @georgie.concrete who is currently in Lutruwita, Tassie, and to @malvika.s who is currently in Mumbai, India.

Thanks also to @danmudcun for the visit and the pics. X

Last Friday I had the great privilege to attend the opening of “A Kind of Resistance” @universitygallerynewcastle curated by @mirrored_vacuum and featuring the work of @katedorrough @robcleworth @georgie.concrete @malvika.s and Doug himself. Instead of hanging the exhibition on a concept or theme, Doug invited artists he liked, artists who possessed those personal and inter-social qualities on which the trust of personal relationship grows. To our conventional notion of art, this seems like an arbitrary principle for an exhibition but the coherence of the show refutes this. Artists are turning away from the detached universalism of the intellectual and conceptual as the atmosphere of our shared society and reminding themselves (and us) of the common ground of interpersonal relationship, of trust, generosity, responsibility and the capacity for care and mutual concern that is the far more substantial basis for social unity than mere ideas. In a way, this exhibition, in refusing to impose coherence through a conceptual frame has allowed the work and artists to reveal the coherence of human community that exists in our lived sharing of it.
