Another brilliant afternoon with @mpcollective24 yesterday 📸

It was fantastic to see so many new faces joining us, alongside some familiar ones we haven’t seen for a little while. We were also really pleased to be able to facilitate a space for collective member @estellephoto2026 to deliver a workshop as part of her Photography MA at the University of Huddersfield. Supporting one another’s creative development and providing opportunities for members to explore, experiment and share their work is exactly what we want MPC to be about.

A big thank you to everyone who came along and made it such an enjoyable afternoon. Thanks to @harrygraphs_ for leading the photowalk. The next one Saturday 14th November.

See you there!

Yesterday was the @mpcollective24 walk with an artist talk from @wolfgang_gallery_ , who joined us to speak about his career, his photographic practice, and his experiences documenting Manchester through the 1990s.

Wolfgang shared work made around the city during a period of huge cultural and social change, giving us a glimpse into a Manchester that feels simultaneously familiar and increasingly distant.

I took these shots on the walk (except the one of me which was taken by @photos_by_anth_anth_anth). Lots of vibrant colours and golden sunshine. A massive thank you to Wolfgang for giving his time, sharing his archive and speaking so openly about his career, and to everyone who came along for another brilliant MPC afternoon.

See you at the next one on 12/09! 📸

I had a great time at the opening of my ‘Still Here’ exhibition on Friday at @hilton.house in the Northern Quarter. I was honestly blown away by the support shown by the people who came along - thank you!

It was nice to hear to much positive feedback from my work. I created this body of work in 2022 with two road trips on each coast of the USA that were both a fortnight long. This was speculative work - I made the trips because a restorative trip to the desert was needed and I had always wanted to explore the rust belt.

A lot of people liked my shot of a man stood outside of a bar in Wheeling, WV which is one of my favourite photographs I have ever taken. Before he passed @martinparrstudio saw this piece at my exhibition on Deansgate last year and when we were having dinner after his @mpcollective24 talk he told me that if I get 10 more like that shot I’ll be just fine 🤯(@emily_chrimes can vouch!)

This was my second exhibition this week alongside the Manchester Gardens show at @openeyegallery in Liverpool. Not bad going!

Thanks again to everyone who came along, I hope you enjoyed it as much as me. The exhibition is available to view at Hilton House between 9-5:30pm Mon-Fri and is on show until October 📸

(Thanks to @johnnyvee___ for the opportunity and thanks to @stanlewis.sax for inviting us to his @bossadospatos gig at @mattandphreds. Bonus pics included!)

We had a great time in the sunshine on the @mpcollective24 photo walk yesterday. We met at Village Hall where @debbieellis_photography graciously gave an artist talk where she shared insights into her creative practice, her career path and her inspirations. We are so lucky that we have such incredible photographers willing to share these things with us. Then we hit the streets and mostly stood in the shade because it was far too hot ☀️

Today we are in Liverpool for the opening our our exhibition in collaboration with @openeyegallery . This is a milestone achievement for us - partnering with such a prestigious gallery and creating an avenue of exposure for members of our community. The opening is at 2pm if anyone wants to come along and the exhibition runs until 26th July 📸

Better late than never with a few shots from the @mpcollective24 photowalk this past Saturday. It was great to see so many new people and catch up with old ones after missing the last walk due to shoot commitments.

It’s the final few hours of our open call in collaboration with @openeyegallery - we are looking for your best shots of Manchester gardens to display on the digital display at their gallery in Liverpool. Full details and link to enter can be found on the MPC IG page.

Don’t be shy and get involved - it’s a great opportunity 📸

Happy birthday to the wonderful @emily_chrimes 🎉 🎂 🥳

A few years ago I found Emily’s art page on IG and we would occasionally swap messages of encouragement to each other. In sunmer 2023 we finally met in person for the first few time at Ancoats Makers Market when I dropped off a print Emily had bought and I picked up pne of her fantastic pieces in exchange.

Emily came to opening of my Places Nowhere exhibtion at @galleryoldham in December ‘23 and because of her drive and passion I asked if she would be interested helping me with a photography club I was going to start, an idea that grew into @mpcollective24 and it’s amazing community.

And with that Emily has grown into a really great friend who I’ve shared some incredible moments with over the past couple of years building MPC. I don’t think either of us would have guessed our conversation would lead us to having dinner with the late great @martinparrstudio after an MPC talk a year later where we asked him so many questions for two hours and got plenty fired back in return.

I’m so privileged to have a friend who has my back and has helped me through some of the most challenging times of my life with kindness and support. It’s been quite the journey with plenty more to come I would say!

Thanks for being a superstar, I hope you have a fantastic day ❤️

Today’s member showcase is from the talented Rob Mandel (@robert.mandel.16) a long standing member of the group 📷
Here’s what Rob has to say in their own words:

“Since retiring as a physiotherapist, I’ve found myself drawn into the ever fascinating world of photography. I’ve always been a ‘people watcher’, so taking candid shots of life on the street seemed a natural, if slightly intimidating, starting point. Over the past six years I’ve co-founded a NW-based street photography group, produced a zine - ‘Prestwich Perspectives’, had my own and group exhibitions, lead photo-walks and written articles for publication. I’m constantly trying to see things in new ways, but never sure just how well I am achieving this.

I find myself particularly drawn to complex, maybe slightly ambiguous, humanistic street scenes while, at the same time, striving for a degree of originality. Linked to this is a love for street abstraction both in colour & bnw - yet always including some identifiable figurative content.

Street photography, for me, is usually a solitary pursuit and so MPC provides an opportunity to meet with others - both those with similar and different perspectives on photography. It’s a diverse group, refreshingly different from the traditional ‘camera club’.

There are so many sources of visual inspiration. Looking within the photo world - there are the writings and pictures of Joel Meyerowitz, the gritty street drama of Moriyama, the colour of Harry Gruyaert, the documentary commitment of Tish Murtha and Chris Killip and the contemporary views on NYC streets by Reuben Radding. All hugely inspiring in their different ways.”

To be involved in our showcases drop us a message!
