When what you need is just out of reach. The incredible @robertamaimone_ as Gerrit de Veer during ‘Het Behouden Huis’ from 2024. The young man Gerrit was on his first sailers’ trip when he got stuck with the crew on Nova Zembla, experiencing survival for the first time up close. Going through his own darkness, his diary gave us an insight into the journey through the winter.

When Hades does not agree with how you run things. @rachele.chinellato as Hades and @robertamaimone_ as Eurystheus a.k.a The King performing in my second immersive dance theatre “De Val van Hercules” from 2023. The production explores the theme of masculinity, trying to expend its traditional definition and make a statement against its toxic form.

'It's About Time' offers a glimpse into a near future, where the fundamental binaries of life on Earth have dissolved. Human vs. machine, human vs. animal, and Self vs. Other - everything must be re-created in this world.

Yesterday marked the final day of the CROSSBEATS rehearsals in Amsterdam.

Over the past few days, the artists worked together through rehearsals, exchange and further development of the performance, continuing the co-creation process between Mozambique, Italy and the Netherlands. This process was presented last June at Electropark in Genoa and continued with the residency program in Inhambane and Zavala.

Following the residency, today, September 9, CROSSBEATS will be presented at De Sloot as part of Amsterdam Fringe, at 20:15. Entrance is free and no ticket is required.

CROSSBEATS brings together Mozambican Timbila traditions and rhythms with electronic music, contemporary dance/performance and storytelling through a collaborative process involving multidisciplinary artists.

Before the performance, from 18:00, you are also invited to join a networking dinner at De Sering: an informal gathering bringing together the CROSSBEATS team, partners, cultural professionals, friends and guests.

Laura Agnusdei (@agnusdeilaura), Idio Chichava (@idiochichava), Vincenzo Castellana (@vin.acquaria), Kalekamine (@kamine.kale), Roberta Maimone (@robertamaimone_), Venâncio Junior Mbande (@v.mbandejunior) and Osvalda Nhacune (@osvalda_nhacune).

CROSSBEATS is supported by the Goethe-Institut (@goetheinstitut) and Expertise France (@expertisefrance), in partnership with the Institut français, within the framework of the Africa–Europe Partnerships for Culture – Connect & Create programme, funded by the European Union.

Implemented by AGAPE Mozambique (@agapemozambique) and Forevergreen (@forevergreenfm), with the support of Fringe Festival (@amsterdamfringe).

🇳🇱 CROSSBEATS | Amsterdam Artistic Residency

From Mozambique to Amsterdam, the CROSSBEATS artistic residency continues to create a space for exchange, experimentation and co-creation.

Artists from different backgrounds come together to explore new artistic languages, share practices and build new narratives through movement, sound, performance and storytelling.

In Amsterdam, the story of Timbila continues to travel, transform and meet new perspectives — connecting African heritage with contemporary European artistic practice. 🌍🎶
