A playable sound sculpture was unveiled on Reed Creek Greenway in Asheville

Functioning as both a striking visual landmark and a playable musical instrument, the sculpture was designed and fabricated by artists Nick Geurts and Alex Irvine, who were commissioned by the City following a competitive call-for-artists process. The installation features custom ceramic tiles handcrafted by Asheville residents during multiple community tile-making events held in 2023 and 2025. Did you create a tile? Now you can come find where it landed on the final piece!

Huge shoutout to @cityofasheville for being the kind of host every race dreams of—supportive, vibrant, and fully invested in making every mile something special. And a special thank you to @bohessavlcouncilman for kicking things off with inspirational words that reminded us exactly why we do this.

From the energy on the streets to the cheers around every corner, this community shows up in a way that makes every mile feel meaningful. It just wouldn’t be the same without this incredible city backing it.

Thank you, Asheville 💙 Already counting down to next year…
