“Speak a little truth, and people lose their minds.” That defiant declaration isn’t just a soundbite—it’s a guiding principle for Ice Cube, who is set to launch one of the most anticipated live tours of the year: Truth to Power: Four Decades of Attitude. This nationwide run isn’t just a concert series—it’s a cultural checkpoint tracing four decades of disruption, innovation, and blunt-force honesty from one of hip-hop’s most enduring figures.

Emerging from South Central Los Angeles in the late 1980s as a founding member of N.W.A, Ice Cube didn’t so much step onto the scene as kick the door off its hinges. With Straight Outta Compton, he helped redefine the landscape of rap, dragging America’s uncomfortable truths into the spotlight with a pen dipped in fury and precision. By the time he launched his solo career with AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted in 1990, he had already carved out a reputation as a fearless voice—one unafraid to interrogate systemic injustice, media manipulation, and political hypocrisy.

Now, decades later, Cube isn’t softening with age. If anything, Truth to Power leans harder into the ethos that made his work essential in the first place. The tour’s promotional video captures this perfectly: four versions of Ice Cube—each representing a different decade—ride together through time, layered in the distinct sound and style of each era. It’s not nostalgia for its own sake, but a visual map of evolution, resistance, and identity in motion.

This marks Cube’s first full-scale national tour in years, and he’s not dialing it in. With updated production and a setlist that draws from every era—from No Vaseline to It Was a Good Day to his more recent anthems—each performance promises more than hits. It’s a chronicle of cultural friction, personal reinvention, and the enduring power of saying exactly what needs to be said, when it most needs to be heard.

Ice Cube has released “Ego Maniacs” — the remix of “It’s My Ego,” — featuring Killer Mike and Busta Rhymes and produced by Grammy Award-winning producer E-A-Ski.

Cube recently returned to the Billboard charts with “It’s My Ego,” landing at #7 on Billboard’s Rap Digital Song Sales chart and #8 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart. This achievement carries particular weight considering Ice Cube’s trajectory from N.W.A member to solo artist and cultural icon. The original architect of gangsta rap’s blueprint with landmark albums like AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted (1990) and Death Certificate (1991), Cube has consistently evolved while maintaining his artistic integrity. “It’s My Ego” is the lead single for Cube’s upcoming album Man Down (releasing November 22nd).

The collaboration itself reflects a masterful bridging of hip-hop eras. E-A-Ski, known for his work with Master P, Spice 1, Naughty By Nature, and others, provides a sonic foundation that honors classic hip-hop while incorporating contemporary elements. The addition of Killer Mike, fresh from Run the Jewels‘ success and his own solo renaissance, alongside the legendary Busta Rhymes, creates an incredible dynamic within the track.

The timing of “It’s My Ego” and the forthcoming Man Down album coincides with a broader renaissance of 90s hip-hop veterans finding new creative peaks. This mirrors similar late-career achievements by peers like Nas, whose “King’s Disease” series has garnered critical acclaim and commercial success, proving that hip-hop pioneers can remain culturally relevant while staying true to their artistic foundations.

For Ice Cube, whose career spans South Central streets to Hollywood boardrooms, this latest chart success adds another chapter to a story that began in the mid-1980s with N.W.A.

As Man Down approaches its release, this single sees Ice Cube continue finding new ways to impact the genre he helped shape, proving that authentic artistry can transcend generational and stylistic boundaries

Ice Cube returns to the music scene with his new single “It’s My Ego” and accompanying Gabriel “VIDEOGOD” Hart-directed music video. The single, produced by Grammy-winning producer E-A-Ski, is the first taste of his upcoming album Man Down, scheduled to drop this November.

The release marks Cube’s first solo material since 2018’s Everythang’s Corrupt and reunites him with long-time collaborator E-A-Ski, whose production credits with Cube include standout tracks “Penitentiary” and “Still In The Kitchen.” Their creative synergy continues to evolve, with E-A-Ski’s signature layered, Al Green-inspired production providing the perfect backdrop for Cube’s razor-sharp delivery.

Known for his unfiltered storytelling and relentless energy, Ice Cube has transformed “It’s My Ego” into more than just a song—it’s a manifesto for anyone who’s faced criticism for believing in themselves. The track’s themes of resilience and unapologetic confidence preview the harder-hitting messages of Man Down.

Speaking about the project, Cube offered insight into its central theme: “If you listen to the album, there’s sprinkles of why the record is called Man Down, and what we need to do as men to, to stand back up.”

Man Down will be Ice Cube’s 11th studio album, adding another chapter to a storied career that began with 1990’s AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted. That solo debut, released after he departed from N.W.A, established Cube as a formidable individual force in hip-hop, seamlessly blending political consciousness with street-level storytelling.

@icecube , the legendary rapper/actor/filmmaker/entrepreneur, has achieved an extraordinary milestone in his career as his iconic 1993 @djpooh -produced track, “It Was A Good Day,” surpasses 1 billion streams on Spotify. This achievement not only pays homage to the enduring power of Ice Cube’s music but also highlights the cultural impact and relevance of the golden era of hip-hop.

Released as part of Ice Cube’s third studio album, The Predator, “It Was A Good Day” resonated with audiences from the moment it hit the airwaves. The track is a sonic masterpiece, combining DJ Pooh‘s smooth production with Ice Cube’s distinctive flow and lyricism. With its infectious G-funk beat, soulful “Footsteps In The Dark” sample from the Isley Brothers, and memorable lyrics, “It Was A Good Day” continues to captivate listeners across generations.

Beyond its musical brilliance, “It Was A Good Day” touches on themes that relate to the hopes, aspirations, and struggles of everyday life. Ice Cube’s vivid storytelling transports listeners to a day filled with serenity and joy, a stark contrast to the turbulence often depicted in gangsta rap. The song’s relatable narrative, coupled with its infectious groove, has resonated with fans worldwide, making it a hip-hop anthem that transcends time.

Ice Cube’s ability to create music that remains relevant decades later is a testament to his artistry and influence. “It Was A Good Day” was released nearly three decades ago, yet its impact continues to reverberate in popular culture. Ice Cube’s authenticity and ability to capture the essence of the human experience have allowed his music to stand the test of time, attracting new listeners while remaining cherished by long-time fans.

Ice Cube’s achievement of 1 billion streams for “It Was A Good Day” highlights the evolving nature of the music industry and the impact of streaming platforms. In the digital age, streaming has become the primary medium for music consumption, democratizing access to artists and their work. This milestone emphasizes the enduring appeal of classic hip-hop and the ability of artists like Ice Cube to remain relevant in an ever-changing landscape.
