I remember when Native Son was simply a vision that Emil Wilbekin believed in. To witness what he has built and the lives he has impacted since then is nothing short of extraordinary.

Congratulations, Emil, on a decade of purpose, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the community. Your vision continues to create space, celebrate excellence, and leave a lasting legacy.

A special salute to my brother Darnell Moore for his leadership as President of the Board and his continued dedication to the mission.

As a past honoree, it’s always meaningful to return and celebrate the people who continue to move the work forward.

Congratulations on a beautiful evening and an incredible milestone.

I haven’t even seen the professional photos, videos, or interviews yet, but I was too excited not to get something up from the incredible night I had at the @nativesonnow Awards.

What started as a vision from @emilwilbekin to create space for Black queer men has, 10 years later, become a room of 500+ people gathered in one of NYC’s premier gala spaces to celebrate Black queer excellence across entertainment, media, business, and community leadership.

It’s such an honor to be part of the inaugural Native Son Fellows program in partnership with @gileadsciences, and to be aligned with so many brilliant people doing such impactful work. Conversations around HIV education, stigma reduction, community care, and just what it means to be in community as queer black folks were so inspiring to hear. Congratulations to Emil, the Native Son board, and all of this year’s honorees (@durandbernarr @shinybootz @tramell.tillman @iamguyanthony) on such a beautiful and important evening.

There’s much more content to come, but enjoy this little roundup for now.

(Also, fashion legend @robertverdi and I not only met, but he showed me so much love for my content and work in fashion. As someone who used to come home from school and watch him talk fashion on The Wendy Williams Show… yeah, I kind of died.)
