Someone said, you gotta have some nerve to celebrate a launch during Mercury retrograde. Why, yes, I do! How are you going to have a zine called BCKBONE and fold because Mercury isn't direct? (TBH I didn't even realize we'd still be in that matrix when I decided to celebrate issue 2 of my zine last night). Anyway retrogrades are great for revisiting projects from the past. BCKBONE launched in 2024 and even though I thought the next issue would be out sooner, God had other plans and this second issue took way longer. Everything in its right time and place though! Asé. I took every disruption as an opportunity to make this issue bigger (literally), better and more beautiful. And last night's celebration was like the issue itself-- grand, joy-filled, thoughtful, fly and free!

Thank you to @jessicacaremoor for her contribution to the zine and for her 🔥 reading of excerpts from three of her works.

Big-up @professor_crunk @whateverjewel @iamkfm and @drkerritacreative who also contributed their brilliance to the issue.

Thank you to @mocada_museum and their ED-- @missaimstar for hosting and sponsoring the @bckbonezine party. It was a blast and that sorrel and prosecco was YUMMY! 😋

And last, but not least Big-Up to the BCKBONE small but mighty team-- @tddwlsn and @kahlea_x. Thank you for holding me down and helping to make this issue and the party so doggone good!

Honeybees 🐝,

My heart is really full. 💛

Over the past few months, I’ve been serving as the Creative Producer and Social Media Manager for @helgathefilm, the newest short film by the incredible @bridgett_d.

During one of our conversations, Bridgett shared that she wanted to contribute more stories about the interior worlds of Black women. The softness. The complexity. The quiet parts of our lives that deserve to be seen.

I remember thinking…

That’s exactly why I make films, too.

But beyond the work itself, what I’ll carry with me is the way she led. She created a space filled with generosity, care, and people who genuinely wanted to see one another succeed.

So many people kept saying, “This is so rare.”

But I left believing something different.

Maybe this is the beginning of something that no longer has to be.

May we keep making beautiful work.
May we keep choosing each other.
And may we never stop believing there’s room for all of us. 🫂

Thank you, Bridgett, for trusting me with Helga. What a joy it was to be part of this journey!

XOXO,
🐝🥺🫶🏾
