Christine places my hat on my head and hooks her arm through mine. Gustave runs to her side and smiles up at both of us. I smile down at him. Christine gently rubs her fingertips down my mask and gives me a look. She hates it, but knows I refuse to go out without it. I give her a kiss. A long, passionate one.
"Yuck. Can we go?"
Gustave blurts. I smile against Christine's lips and break the kiss.
"Yes, let's."
I lead them both out the door and we start our walk. It's a brisk fall morning. The sky is grey, but beautiful. There's a slight breeze leaves blowing through the air. The smell of the ocean hits us as soon as we leave the front door. We head to the main part of the island, the lack of sun makes for a less crowded day. Hardly anyone is out. A few people here and there. I tip my hat and smile at anyone we pass. Christine gives me a warm smile. We walk past another, smaller park. It's run-down and makes almost no money compared to Phantasma. It's full of drunk carnies and other sketchy characters and broken down rides.
"Mother? Father can we?" He looks up at us both with pleading eyes. Christine and I exchange looks. I give her a look that says it all.
"Gustave, Phantasma is so much prettier. So much nicer. Why here?
Because Mother. I've been to Phantasma many times! I want to see a new place, with new rides and attractions!"
He excitedly explains.
"Gustave, what your Mother means is that this place isn't safe. there's been many accidents here. We don't want you to get hurt.
Oh. Alright."
He sighs and we continue walking past the park. "Hey!"
A familiar voice slurs. Whoever it is calls to us from inside the park. We all turn to see a figure stumbling towards us. Drunk. He gets closer and I clench my jaw. Raoul. "Hey! I called to you's guys!"
He mumbles. He must be extremely intoxicated.
"Hey! Christine you're not dead. Huh. Well that's good news!
Raoul. I thought you were going back to Paris? Remember our little er- chat?"
I glare at him. Christine looks embarrassed to even be the same species as him. "Yeah well. Got no money. 'Sides. I like Coney Island. Real pretty."
He grins. Christine shakes her head and turns to keep walking.

Chapter 5
Christine had grown rather large. She was still just as affectionate as she had been when I had first brought her home. She still craves attention from me, and since I had seen the wedding announcement and was feeling lonely as ever I gave it to her. Besides Nadir, she was my only companion, and honestly I didn't mind it so much. She never got snippy with me. She never talked back. She hardly ever did anything that irritated me that badly. I sighed and scratched her ears as I read. She happily purred and sat on my lap. She was soft and warm. She started kneading at my thigh. She did this when she was hungry. I chuckled and got up. She hopped to the kitchen table.
"You know you aren't supposed to be up there."
She replied with a quiet "meow". I shook my head as I cooked some salmon for myself. I always shared my food with her. If it weren't for Christine I wouldn't eat. I had gained about ten pounds since I had taken her in. I was at a healthy weight now. Christine jumped from the table and onto my shoulder as I cooked.
"Well bonjour little one.
Meow!"
I smiled and kissed her head. I had grown rather attached. I saw her eyeballing the fish.
"Not yet. soon Christine. Very soon."
She purred and nuzzled my neck. I chuckle. Her whiskers tickle my neck. She jumps to the counter and watches as I prepare the food. I pull it from the bone for her and put it in a small dish with cream. Her usual meal. I set it on the floor and she almost chews my arm off. "I'm sorry! I didn't know you were that hungry!"
She continues to eat and I sit at the table with my fish and asparagus. I eat as I read the book I was enjoying before she pestered me for dinner. I sighed and finish the book. The handsome man always gets the woman. And the ugly monster is left alone, with his cat. I sighed and silent tears trickled down my cheeks. THUD! She jumped up on the table in front of me and licked my nose. I gave her a sad smile and scratched her chin.
"Merci"
She meowed. I went to my desk and started composting. This took my mind off things. My fingers flitted from key to key. I scribbled notes on the music score every so often.

Chapter 6
Christine had been on bed rest for about a week. I had been waiting on her hand and foot. I was starting to drive her mad. I wouldn't let her leave the bed unless it was to bathe or relieve herself. Her wound was completely closed, a nurse had taken her stitches out yesterday. I will admit that I was being over protective, as long as it was still tender I wanted her to rest. "Erik?" She called to me. "I'm done with my tea.

Alright. Do you need anything else?

Yes.

Anything. Name it.

Freedom! Let me do things on my own again. Please? I know you're just concerned for me, but look..." She pulled up her dress to reveal a large scab. "It's almost completely healed! It hardly hurts anymore. I miss doing things with you and Gustave. I feel like I'm missing out." She looked up at me with sad, pleading eyes. Those eyes, I couldn't resist them and she knew that. "Please Erik?" She pulled me to her and kissed me ever so lightly. Our lips just barely touched. "But Christine I-

No buts Erik! I'm sick of this room, if you don't give me my freedom I'll have to take it." She started to stand and I gently took her shoulders and sat her back down. "Alright.

But I- Alright?

Yes. I understand being cooped up in here must be driving you mad.

Oh thank you Erik." She kissed me again and hugged me close. "What do you wish to do with your new found freedom Mademoiselle?

Mademoiselle?

Well, considering I haven't proposed and I don't think you consider yourself married still do you?

You're right. I think I'd like to take a walk. With you and Gustave. Just walk through town." She smiled. "That can be arranged. Gustave!?" I called and he came running. He ran so fast he almost slipped on the area rug outside the door. "Yes father?

Your mother is feeling well again. In a bit all three of us are going to go for a walk. How does that sound?

Really!? Oh mother!"
