The venerable monks stopping in Charlotte, NC was a moment to pause in peace and hope. You could feel the excitement of the community as they greeted the monks on their journey to Washington, DC. You could also feel their calm and peaceful demeanor with each step they took. As the monks reached their resting point, with thousands of community members standing by, their leader Bhikkhu Pannakara began to speak about this mission and his hope that people will remember this walk long after it is complete. He shared that it is not enough to greet them for one day in your city—this alone will not bring lasting peace. We must carry this peace walk into our daily lives by walking this earth mindfully. Here are a few takeaways I left this experience holding dear to my heart. The monk expressed the importance of being mindful of our breathing and honoring each breath we take. He encouraged us to begin doing one thing at a time and to quit multitasking so we can be more relaxed, reduce stress, and conserve energy. When we work, he asked, can we commit to pausing for one minute every hour and becoming aware of our breath? These short mindful moments can relieve anxiety. He also asked the crowd to consider catching feelings of anger as they arise—closing your eyes, picturing something pleasant, and thinking of the words to your favorite song. He said this helps us respond with awareness rather than react, preventing feelings of resentment or guilt. He highlighted the importance of daily meditation and waking up each morning saying, “Today will be my peaceful day.” This peace walk and message of mindfulness has struck a chord in my heart in the very best way. Thank you, Bhikkhu Pannakara, and all of the venerable monks for sharing your wisdom, love, and message of peace with the world. @walkforpeace.usa #PeaceWalk #MindfulLiving

Taking time to step out of your daily routine is a gift more people should consider embracing. In today’s fast-paced world, many of us are overstimulated and overwhelmed—often without even realizing it. Nature is one of the most powerful ways to reconnect with balance and create space between your breath and your thoughts. My retreats are curated to inspire balance in your mind, body, and soul. They’re so much more than just daily yoga practices. They’re an experience of nurture and nature, wisdom and exploration, talks and walks, massages and mountain streams, wholesome food and horseback riding, community and laughter. Everything is designed to help you feel relaxed and return home rejuvenated, inspired, and ready for more. Join the experience. Myself and special guest teacher Emily Boother can’t wait to welcome you. Have you ever noticed that as soon as you let something go, the solution arises? I’ve come to understand and now teach that for every problem, there is a solution. Every time! The thing is, you cannot see the solution when you’re focused on the problem. Whether it’s work-related, relationship-based, school, friends, or finances, the process is always the same. Focus on something that makes you feel a little better. It’s when you’re feeling relief that you’re moving in the direction of the solution. Some people find relief by playing with a pet or a baby, others by dancing, or maybe for you, it’s listening to your favorite song. It doesn’t matter what it is as long as it soothes you. While you are engaged in this new activity, ask yourself, “Do I feel a little better or a little worse?” If you’re feeling a little better, continue having fun—that’s soothing, and it helps solve the problem. But if you’re not feeling better, don’t give up, give it a little more time. Many people think that they can ‘think’ their way to solutions, but the relief is in feeling your way to a little better and then a little better, until you feel really good. Give it a try and let me know how this works for you. Need more inspiration? Join me in person for one of my workshops or retreats. My next retreat, ‘Get Grounded,’ will be held in the mountains of North Carolina, September 18-21. Direct message me for more information or registration. Creating a positive mindset is possible and will set you up for success in every part of your life.
