As awards season gets underway, Marilyn's Dark Paradise is heading to Spain for its Barcelona premiere at the Love & Hope International Film Festival, where we're thrilled to have received THREE nominations for the 2026 LLUM Awards! 🏆

Barcelona is a city famous for its art, architecture, and creativity, so we're especially excited to bring Marilyn's story here.

And there's a fitting connection to the festival itself. Llum means "light" in Catalan, a word that feels right at home with our story of Marilyn's search for the light within herself.

Through all the heartbreak life brought her, Marilyn continued to reach for love, believe in its promise, and hope for something beautiful just beyond the horizon. ❤️

I spent an afternoon at Hummingbird Nest Ranch with cinematographer Sarah Pierpont and aerial cinematographer Rob Watt. By golden hour, somehow we had the whole place to ourselves.

Sarah disappeared into the Villa, following light through curtains and doorways, reflections across old tile floors, hand-painted details and rooms that seem to reveal themselves one after another. Rob was somewhere above us, flying his gigantic drone across the ranch and into the Santa Susana Mountains.

By the time the sun went down, we knew we had captured something that felt very different from a conventional location film:

🇺🇾 ❤️ We flew almost 6,000 miles to bring Marilyn's Dark Paradise to Montevideo Fantástico. We came home with two awards and unforgettable experiences!

First, Uruguay itself. The light in Montevideo is something you have to see for yourself. The sunsets stretch all the way across the horizon, and none of our photos came close to capturing them. We've watched the sun go down in a lot of places. Not like this.

And the people. Juan Pablo Aguirre welcomed us into the wonderful world of this festival, along with Madame LaBumba, Dred, Alejandro Yamgotchian, and so many others. Remi and his friend Jon were also welcomed by wonderful friends in Uruguay, including Matias and Sebastian, who were incredibly gracious hosts throughout the trip. We arrived as strangers in so many places and left feeling like we'd known everyone for years.

That keeps happening on this festival run. You go for the movie, and it's the people you can't stop talking about afterward.

🏆 Audience Award

The Editing & Characterization Award means so much to this team. Our director spent years cutting and recutting this film, sometimes frame by frame, chasing the rhythm of a story with no spoken dialogue. Every cut had to work with Jason Pelsey's score, the performances, the text, and the silences. Seeing that work recognized on the other side of the world is something special.

The Audience Award got us for a different reason. This is an American film about an American woman, and here was a room full of people watching in another language, in another hemisphere, finding their way into her story anyway.

That's the whole reason we wanted to travel with this film.

All these years later, Marilyn’s story has found a home in Montevideo too.

Thank you Juan Pablo, Madame LaBumba, Dred, Alejandro, and everyone at Montevideo Fantástico. The awards are wonderful, but you sent us home with something that doesn't fit on a shelf. 🇺🇾 ❤️

Gracias, Uruguay. Nos llevamos un pedacito de ustedes con nosotros.
