Finished my performance response for Robyn Breen’s Weathering Chapter 4.

Many thanks to the Festival of New Dance in St. John’s for the opportunity to do this work and share the process with others. And thanks to Robyn and her dancers and collaborators for the inspiration!

Thanks to @annatempletoncentre for the fabulous work space.

For WIP Wednesday I thought I would share some progress shots of my fibre/textile response to Robyn Breen’s Weathering from the recent Festival of New Dance. The soundscore was such an integral part of the choreography that I just had to pull in some of the lyrics from different songs. Robyn’s work beautifully captured the Newfoundland sense of humour mixed with clever movement sequences and the brilliant score. My response work mainly mixes a combination of embroidery and needle felting. Thanks again to Neighbourhood Dance Works and the Anna Templeton Centre for making my residency possible.

Bringing you more of the action and unmatched energy with Big Stepper NL.

If you thought the last one was loud, wait until you catch the vibe on this track.

That’s a wrap for day 1 of “making” during my residency at the Festival of New Dance in St. John’s. I think I will end up making two pieces but I’ve started with a response to Robyn Breen’s “Weathering Chapter 4”. Experimenting with embroidering in fingering weight yarn. Fun to hang out in the Anna Templeton Centre this afternoon.

One Year in Bloom was never just a celebration.

It's a story of memories made, connections sparked, and community built one conversation, one activity, one afternoon at a time.

Over the past year, we watched people walk in alone and walk out with friends. We watched people arrive nervous and leave confident. But no matter how they showed up, they all left with the same thing: A sense of belonging.

That's the whole reason we do this work, so you feel at home here in Newfoundland and Labrador.

On August 21st, we marked one full year of Bloom, and we were so grateful to share that moment with all of you. 💚

The connection doesn't stop when the event ends. Join our Bloom Community by Amal Unite & Empower Facebook group and stay connected.
