We often quote recidivism rates when speaking about how dangerous prisons are without thinking critically about what it is that influences these rearrest and reincarceration rates.

These rates reflect not only the failures of our carceral system in providing adequate support, care, and accountability but also reflect community response.

A criminal record is a punishment in and of itself as it leads to significant barriers to stability and support, which can influence pathways to harm and illegal activity.

The intersectionality of this must also be addressed, as studies find that employers are more likely to hire white individuals with criminal records than black individuals without criminal records. This means that not only is the community responding to stereotypes of criminality but that these stereotypes are racialized and the perception that black x criminal record = more dangerous than white x criminal record.

When we talk about recidivism as an individual level outcome, it lets us off the hook, but we, in the community, are culpable for cycles of violence as we perpetuate stigma, discrimination, and exclusion.

So, if you want to see less community harm, we must change the ways we think about and act with those we perceive as dangerous solely due to them being justice-involved. Because we also must note that convictions and prison sentences can reflect access to money, time, and legal representation as much as culpability and assessed threat 🤝

Last week, our team had the privilege of attending the 2026 New England Streetworker Conference at Gillette Stadium alongside more than 400 people representing 120+ organizations across New England.

The day's theme, Community is the Strategy, came to life through powerful conversations, shared learning, and meaningful connections between streetworkers, community violence intervention practitioners, young people, community leaders, and partners dedicated to creating safer, stronger communities.

We're grateful for the opportunity to exchange ideas, build relationships, and continue growing in this important work. A huge shoutout to @utec.inc and all who organized this spectacular day. It was wonderful connecting with so many of our partners!

🏆 CELEBRATING OUR 2026 MEN’S OVERALL PODIUM 🏆
A champion returned to Chelsea—and once again made history on our streets.
Antonio Wilson Sousa Lima completed the 2026 United in Ability Chelsea Road Race in an exceptional 16:50, averaging 5:24 per mile and becoming our Men’s Overall Champion.
Antonio won our inaugural race in 2024 and set the Chelsea Road Race course record of 16:31—a record that remains unbroken. In 2026, he returned to the community that first crowned him and reclaimed his place at the top of the podium.
Antonio proudly runs with Team Stride for Stride, a nonprofit organization that purchases race bibs for immigrant, BIPOC and low-income runners. Its mission is to remove financial barriers and make starting lines more accessible and diverse.
We proudly celebrate our complete men’s podium:
🥇 Antonio Wilson Sousa Lima — 16:50
🥈 Mariano de Jesus Agudelo Gomez — 17:03
🥉 Adam Roy — 17:31
Our champions crossed a special winners’ break tape presented by Gonnella Law, an official sponsor of the 2026 United in Ability Chelsea Road Race.
The break tape was held by two dedicated community leaders: Chelsea’s Director of Health and Human Services, Tracy Nowicki, and Chelsea Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jennifer Hassell. Their leadership and service continue to strengthen Chelsea, and their presence made these championship moments even more meaningful.
Antonio, Mariano and Adam: your places on this podium were earned through every mile, every sacrifice and every decision to keep moving forward.
On behalf of the City of Chelsea and the entire Chelsea Road Race community, congratulations! Chelsea celebrates you, honors you and proudly welcomes you into our Community of Champions. 🏆❤️

Strong collaboration across law enforcement, government, and service providers is an important factor behind Baltimore’s historic public safety progress.

Every week, MONSE’s GVRS team meets with @yapinc1975 and @roca_inc to stay coordinated, strengthen partnerships, and make sure Baltimoreans at the very highest risk of being involved in violence get the support they need to stay safe, alive, and free.

The Prince & Princess of Wales visit Boston - Day 2

———
The Prince & Princess of Wales began their second day in Boston at the Greentown Labs in Somerville.

Greentown is North America’s largest clean-tech incubator, having supported more than 500 companies since its founding. William & Catherine toured the facility and meet innovators. The visit concluded with a sweet exchange with eight-year-old Henry who dressed as a member of the Royal Guard.

From there, Their Royal Highnesses travelled to neighboring Chelsea to visit Roca Inc, a non-profit organization focusing on high-risk young people aged 16-24 years old.

🧡 Violence prevention through mindset change 🧠

Our Regional Peacekeepers Collective (RPKC) partners recently completed Roca's Rewire CBT training. This two‑day training gave the group skills to help young people transform their thought patterns by guiding them to understand their thoughts, regulate emotions, and make safer choices in high-stress moments.
