Getting Rocco Eichler and Lucas Perno ready for that next level 🥍

Working through some skeleton 1-on-1s here, slowing everything down and focusing on the details that actually matter.

When do our hands come into play? When do we make contact? Where should we approach the ball carrier? What angle are we trying to take away?

The goal isn’t just to “stop your guy.” We want to dictate where he goes. Approach with a purpose, make contact at the right time, and drive him out, up and wide, away from where he wants to get to.

You’ll also notice I don’t spend a ton of time talking about taking the ball away during these reps. That’s intentional. If we’re constantly hunting for takeaways, we can start sacrificing positioning, footwork and leverage. Take care of those things first and the opportunities to get the ball back will come.

With these guys getting closer to stepping into high school lacrosse, it’s about building habits they can rely on when everything gets faster, stronger and more physical.

Footwork. Approach. Contact. Leverage. Then worry about the rest. 💪🥍

Back to the basics with a mirror drill, but adding a reaction element to the footwork.

One player leads, the other has to mirror him. There’s no predetermined direction and no knowing when the next change is coming. You have to read, react, change direction, and get your feet back underneath you.

That’s what makes a simple drill like this so valuable for defensive players.

In a game, the offensive player isn’t telling you where he’s going. You have to react without guessing, stay balanced, keep your feet underneath you, and be able to redirect without crossing your feet or losing your positioning.

For Rocco and Lucas, it’s another opportunity to compete against each other while sharpening the fundamentals that everything else defensively is built on.

Simple footwork. Quick reactions. Good habits. Quality reps. 📈

A little friendly competition always turns the intensity up. 😤🥍

Rocco Eichler & Lucas Perno going head-to-head in an up-tempo drill, pushing each other to move faster, react quicker, and execute while tired.

I love adding competition into sessions because it changes the mindset. Now there’s pressure. Now there’s urgency. You have someone next to you trying to beat you every rep. That’s when you find out if you can keep your technique clean while the speed goes up. 🔥

Compete. Have fun. Get better. 📈

Just a few seconds from the session, but a lot happening in these reps. Working on being clean and efficient with their movement, staying under control, and building habits that translate when the game speeds up.

The little details add up. Keep stacking good reps. 📈

Oldie but a GOODIE 🥍🔥

The mirror drill is one of those drills I’ll always come back to because there’s so much you can get out of something that looks so simple.

The goal is to stay as even as possible with the offensive player. Match his movements, react to his change of direction, keep your feet underneath you, stay in your stance, and don’t panic when he starts moving faster.

It’s WAY harder than it looks.

This drill works on reaction time, lateral quickness, change of direction, body control, footwork endurance, and most importantly, learning how to move without crossing your feet or losing your positioning.

Simple drill. A lot of great outcomes. 💪🥍

🥍 DEFENSEMEN, THIS ONE’S FOR YOU.

Private defensive training is built for players who want to become more complete, confident, and difficult to play against.

We’re not just throwing checks. We’re working on the details that actually translate to the field:

🥍 Approach angles & breakdowns
⚡ Footwork, speed & change of direction
💪 Using your body and playing with physicality
🧠 Positioning, IQ & decision-making
🔒 On-ball defense & off-ball awareness
🥍 Stick work, clears & becoming comfortable with the ball

There is a HUGE difference between playing defense and knowing how to play defense.

My goal is to develop defensemen who can cover, communicate, make plays, handle pressure, and become players coaches trust in every situation.

📆 More private training availability is OPEN next week.

If you’re a defenseman looking to take your game to another level, shoot me a DM and let’s get to work. 💪🥍

The little things separate good defenders from great ones.

Foot placement. Angles. Communication. Recoveries. Understanding why you’re making each movement, not just going through the motions. That’s what we focus on every time we step on the field.

There are no shortcuts. Just quality reps that translate directly into game day. 🥍💯

Private defensive training is available. Send me a DM to get started.

Defense isn’t just about athleticism, it’s about discipline, technique, and making the right decision under pressure. Every session is focused on building better footwork, cleaner approaches, stronger body positioning, and the confidence to win one on one matchups.

Fall season is right around the corner. Let’s get to work. 🥍💪

DM me to schedule a private training session.

🦾 Another great day on the field putting in work with Joe Casey, Rocio Eichler, and Lucas Perno.

Every session is about building habits that translate to game day. We focused on the small details, footwork, body positioning, stick placement, decision making, and playing with confidence. Those little things might not always show up on the stat sheet, but they’re what separate good players from great ones.

The best part about coaching is seeing athletes who are willing to be coached, ask questions, and attack every rep with purpose. These three brought great energy from start to finish, and I’m excited to keep watching them develop.
