I finally led Gargoyl flake after top roping it 4 years ago - even managed the one handed dangle! Love repeating old routes and feeling the progress/strength you’ve gained!

Gargoyl flake VS 4c

Thanks for an all round great day, the belay @adam_smeds and most importantly the photography @jennamiee 😂📸

✅ Knights Move, HVS 5a***
📍 Burbage North

Very, very pleased to have ticked this one today 🍃

Lead it initially to almost the top of the flake, pumped myself out & got in my head, so came down to recoop (hence the pre-placed green dragonfly at the start - PLEASE don’t come at me, that start is horrifying if you’re 5ft & under 😮‍💨)

The tall vs short climber debate is eons old & the benefits/cons very much go both ways. But I do think it’s awfully mean for anyone over a certain height who can easily reach the good holds to claim a route is soft. I wouldn’t change my height, personally; I think it’s made me an exceptionally better & more technical climber - but it is always an interesting topic to hash out

In any regard, this one felt really scary for me. Even after a go on second. So to get back on the lead & get it scared felt so SO ace 🥰

I think that’s where you learn the most ✨ and definitely makes me feel like I earnt it 🌞

Thank you @alex.lucy.hindle for the belay & the patience, as always x

Also this section of rock is just SO featured & cool! Does anyone know how those discs are formed? I have a geology course bookmarked for when I’m recovering from my next surgery & undoubtedly spiralling. I’m quite looking forward to learning a whole bunch 🤓 rocks are so fucken cool ⛰️🧗🏻‍♀️

📍 Wainstones. North York Moors.

Been trying to avoid crowds over summer, and drive a bit less. The North York Moors is probably the closest climbing for me living in York.
A sandstone crag that has wonderful gritstone type climbing and interesting iron deposits in the rock. Care needed as it may look like gritstone, but being sandstone it’s more fragile and must be dry to climb.
This crag offers wonderful trad climbing, (if a tad bold) Some brilliant boulders too, and a fantastic panoramic view of North Yorkshire and out towards Roseberry topping and the Yorkshire coast.
Pics 1,2 & 3 is Tom on the scary on-sight of Lemming slab.
Pic 4 , me on sphinx nose traverse
Pic 5 & 6 is Tom on sesame
7& 8 - more SNT
9 - Tom on the prow
10 - Me on a sandbag boulder 6 a or something.

Worth the walk up. 🥰

After I worked on my E1 project Friday eve, @adam_smeds lead Gargoyle Flake & I very happily seconded - having lead it the month before

I could do that route again & again. One of the best in the peak. Even better at sunset 🌅

Appreciating the gritstone we have on our doorstep, while we fight excessive polish on the popular limestone crags in Freyr 🥲 we’re lucky to call the peak our home

Thank you for the snap Adam!

Pembroke… featuring my favourite climb of the trip - Kitten Claws E3 5c, Carreg-y-Barcud ⭐️⭐⭐️. A a beautiful, delicate slab, tiny crimps and debatable gear in places… 🤣 for the shorties… a couple of moves felt 6a to me, but with lots of intermediate holds (thanks sandstone!!) it makes it possible for us ✨🤍 Also…I like to stuff my face with a few Squashies for a bit of extra sugar… 🤣 🍬 . #pembrokeshire #climbing #rockclimbing #sandstone #slabclimbing

So there’s this E1 I’ve been thinking about... 🍃

👀 amongst a few others dotted around the peak/yorkshire

I’m just going to let it simmer for a little while & enjoy some VS/HVS routes I’ve got my eye on, for the rest of the season, if it dries up 🌞 & see what happens..

But it’s exciting (& scary!) even to be considering my first. Eek! 💚✨
