Known for its Electron launch vehicle, Rocket Lab provides dedicated launch services for small satellites and develops advanced space systems, satellite components and spacecraft for commercial, scientific and government missions. The company is also developing Neutron, a larger launch vehicle designed to carry bigger payloads into orbit. Neutron isn’t one big question mark - it’s 6 individual pieces, and most of them are already done. 🚀
✅ Engines: 400+ hot fires, tested and ready ✅ Interstage: qualified, load tests passed ✅ Fairing: all pre-flight testing complete 🔧 Thrust module + Stage 2: in progress, closing in on the pad 🔴 Stage 1 tank: the one real blocker — voids found in the forward dome during a recent inspection
The fix isn’t theoretical either. Rocket Lab re-ran the matching aft dome through the corrected process and got what CEO Peter Beck called “the highest quality carbon composite dome to date.” Only the forward dome needs a rebuild now — and that’s already underway.

What is a Hall Effect Thruster?

A Hall Effect Thruster (HET) is a form of electric propulsion, more specifically an electrostatic thruster, that uses electricity to accelerate ions to speeds upwards of 30 km/s!

They utilize specific radial magnetic fields and employ the Lorentz force to confine electrons, generating a Hall current, and creating a virtual grid of electrons for ions to accelerate towards!

The benefits with using Hall Effect Thrusters are that they provide high fuel efficiencies and high reliability, due to having no moving parts.

There have been a lot of companies, both private and government, that are actively developing these futuristic propulsive devices for space!

NASA PREPARA GRANDE COMPRA DE LANÇAMENTOS PARA SUA BASE LUNAR

A NASA está se preparando para realizar uma grande contratação de lançamentos destinada ao transporte de infraestrutura para sua futura base na Lua. Segundo informações da Bloomberg, a agência está próxima de anunciar suas primeiras compras em grande escala.

A NASA estima que, a partir de 2029, poderá precisar de foguetes capazes de transportar até 60 toneladas de equipamentos para a superfície lunar, incluindo sistemas de energia, habitats e outras estruturas necessárias para uma presença humana sustentável.

A agência avalia utilizar diversos veículos de lançamento, em vez de depender de uma única empresa. Entre as possíveis participantes estão a SpaceX, Blue Origin e Rocket Lab, conforme seus foguetes de próxima geração entrarem em operação.

Um dos principais desafios, porém, será a cadência de lançamentos. Alguns dos novos foguetes ainda poderão não realizar voos com frequência suficiente até 2029 para atender à demanda prevista pela NASA.
