🤍 We love the rich deep grey tones and the angular design of the Grade 5 titanium case. As it’s Friday, we couldn’t resist sharing some lume porn to get you all going for the day.

👉 Is it perfect, no. We wish that it was slightly thinner. At 15mm, it does sit a bit higher on the wrist than we’d like.

This doesn’t take away what a fabulous looking watch this is and how much fun it is to wear. Bring on the summer ☀️

🚨 NWA: New Watch Alert 🚨

Most people have never heard of Roy King.

That’s exactly why this watch stops us every time we pick it up.

But for Neil, this one is different, it’s personal.

He’s been obsessed with Roy King for years. Hunting quietly, waiting for the right piece to surface. When this 1973 sterling silver bark texture example came up, there was no deliberation.

No “let me think about it.” The decision was made before he’d finished reading the listing.

I’ve never seen him this animated about a watch. And boy I’ve watched him buy a lot of watches. 😭

But here’s why the obsession makes complete sense.

Roy King started as a 14-year-old apprentice in Hatton Garden, London, UK. By his twenties he was making one-off pieces for members of the Royal Family, sold through Bond Street jewellers. In the 1930s he was an uncredited manufacturer for Rolex, Cartier, Asprey and Garrard.

Then he invented the bark finish.

When George Harrison married Patti Boyd in 1966, she wore Roy King bark finish wedding bands. That texture, the one you can see on this watch, sparked a craze that swept through 1960s British jewellery.

This 1973 sterling silver Roy King is that texture in watch form. Hand finished, completely one of a kind. The kind of piece that ends up in a Goldsmiths’ Hall exhibition, which his work literally did.

Most people scrolling past this have never heard his name. I hadn’t. when Neil told me he bought a Roy King, I thought he meant the footballer who played for Manchester United. 😭

Neil has for years. And now it’s finally on his wrist and I couldn’t be happier for him. The watch came with this newspaper clipping from the 70s adding some additional insight into a man that was so influential in his time and who has been sadly forgotten by most. Until now.

The @rzewatches Endeavour in Polaris White was such a great watch to take to the mountains. Super lightweight titanium case, easy legible dial, epic full lume dial, and looks pretty damn cool.

👇🔦 TOP TIPS FOR GREAT LUME SHOTS 🔦👇

1. I like to have an LED light off to the side (on low power) pointing away from the watch - this provides a catch of light on the case

2. set up your camera (or phone) on a tripod and choose your composition

3. set your shutter speed to at least 1 second - have a play with what works for you

4. i usually under-expose the shot by 1-2 stops to ensure the lume doesn’t blow out too much

5. choose a low ISO and wide aperture

6. give your dial a blast with a GOOD UV torch for at least 10-20 seconds

7. take the shot - ideally with a remote control (or use the self timer) to avoid camera shake

8. for this shot, whilst the shutter was open, i fired a laser pen into the shot to create some interesting patterns

9. check out your shot and keep playing until you get it right - it can take several shots if you are light painting

@uboatwatch_official Flightdeck Chronograph 5413. My first automatic/chronograph watch and I have become a U-BOAT fan ever since. 50mm case size seems a little too big, but its unique military-style design truly differentiates U-BOAT from others.
