On Andy Griffith's birthday, we would be remiss to not honor him for his contributions to Bluegrass music. Because of Andy, millions of homes to this day hear Bluegrass music. The Dillards aka The Darlings were beloved guests when they appeared on the show. Unlike many shows, Andy never made fun of the music. The Darlings lived in the hills and were comical, but the music was always taken seriously. Listen to Charlene sing "There Is a Time" and you'll hear for yourself. Almost speechless, Andy managed to say, "Well I believe that's the prettiest thing I ever heard." Andy, thank you for giving Bluegrass music an incredible spotlight and for not making a mockery of it for cheap laughs. Thank you, Andy! #bluegrasslife

Remembering, DOUG DILLARD 🪕 🎶🎵🎶
[March 6, 1937 – May 16, 2012]

I took this picture at “Full Moon” Ted Walker’s Full Moon Bluegrass Party in Nashville in 1985.

My brother Michael jammed with Doug until dawn with the cows enjoying the music as the sun rose.
The The Dillards were a classic bluegrass group.

The Darlings return to arrange a mountain divorce for daughter Charlene. Andy gets involved and gets tagged to be the next husband. He decides to fight fire with fire when Barney discovers a way to curse the proposed union in a book on mountain folklore and superstition.
