Wednesday night workout @gatewaycityk9 with @roguewolfproject 🎥. This was the first time she bit in the bottle pit. Not sure why she came off. I like that she reengaged quickly and stayed on after that. #belgianmalinois #personalprotectiondog #stldogsofinstagram #meimei #gatewaycityk9

Everybody had that older brother, uncle or big homie that used to rough them up when they was younger at the time you probably hated that shit but as you got older you realized it helped toughen you up.

I look at this the same way. The older dog ain’t putting nothing into that pup that wasn’t already there genetically but she’s giving him experiences that can help bring certain things out of him. Learning how to deal with pressure, take a little rough treatment and come right back for more.

Genetics is the foundation but environment and experiences play a big role in development too. I don’t believe you can make a dog into something it wasn’t born to be but I do believe you can bring more out of what was already there.

Sometimes that same little mf you used to throw around might grow up and be more dog than you ever was 😂💯 That’s how it’s supposed to be 💯

ETHICAL VS UNETHICAL BREEDING — AND WHY DOGS END UP IN RESCUES

What does an ethical breeding program look like?
✔️ Calculated, compatible pairings bred with purpose for a structured outcome
✔️ A bloodline with a real future and vision
✔️ Not over-breeding the same female
✔️ DNA & health testing on dogs and puppies
✔️ Good living conditions
✔️ Understanding the science behind breeding these animals
✔️ Developing pups’ temperament and performance from day one
✔️ Educating buyers on the breed and how to care for it
✔️ Vetting buyers for the right lifestyle — not offloading dogs to just anyone
✔️ Taking a dog back and rehoming it properly if things don’t work out

What does unethical breeding look like?
❌ No plan, no complementary pairing, no vision for the outcome
❌ Breeding purely for profit, with no future for the breed
❌ Over-breeding the same female
❌ No DNA/health testing — recessive health issues get passed on
❌ No education for new owners
❌ No understanding of breeding science
❌ Minimal effort raising pups before sale
❌ Poor living conditions

Price isn’t a reliable signal either — some of the most unethical breeding happens behind the most expensive price tags.

What causes dogs to end up in shelters — and how do we prevent it?
→ Selling to the right people with the right lifestyle for the breed
→ Breeding well-adjusted dogs people won’t struggle with
→ Desexing contracts at a healthy age, to prevent accidental litters
→ Vetting other breeders’ programs before selling to them
→ Educating every customer on the breed
→ Taking dogs back in a worst-case scenario, and finding them the right home

The real problem is a lack of information — buyers don’t know where to find a good breeder, and first-time owners aren’t taught how to raise the dog they bring home. Dog breeding isn’t the problem. Unethical dog breeding is. Too many good breeders get lumped in with people breeding purely for profit or fame.

Let’s fix this. 🐾

Warning long caption. (I’m sure many don’t read my captions. Although, I hope you all do)
After watching this video sent to me by @canarianbull . My take away was less about Onyx and more about the human aspect. Joel is teaching myself and Onyx. Kylie and Stacey are both videoing. At the end you hear Stacy praising Onyx. My dog, not hers, mine! This is nothing new @gatewaycityk9. This happens with every time we train! Everyone is supporting each other and their dogs! If you are not supporting and cheering on those around you or, those around you are not cheering you on. Take a step back and reassess. Identify the breakdown and adjust accordingly. I tried tagging everyone that has supported us or shared my reels. I was only able to tag 20 followers. I apologize if you were not tagged. #supporteachother #ittakesavilliage #thankful #gatewaycityk9 #ironramworkingdogs
