Carrie: The Musical 👑🩸 Act two: (George goes to Prom. . . “A night he’ll never forget”)

Matthew’s jock character who everyone thinks is gay dies a brutal death. . . This also sounds familiar. . .

Carrie I would say is the most dance heavy musical I’ve ever been a part of, I’ve always felt choreography was my weak point when it came to musical theatre, but I feel like in this show our wonderful director/choreographer Kay somehow flipped a switch in my brain that made it all make sense, and now I can say that the entire prom sequence in this show is my favorite sequence in any musical I’ve been in, with “the destruction” and “in” being my favorite numbers of all time because of the choreography.

There were times this show frustrated me but it was mostly because of the long rides going from Fredericksburg to Fairfax/great falls, or trying to learn choreography from videos, but all those frustrations were worth it for the show to turn out as incredible as it did.

This was the first show I’ve done outside of Fredericksburg and honestly it’s giving me the itch to venture outside more often to make new friends and experience theatre in other venues. This is also the first show I’ve done in a thrust theatre format which now I can’t imagine Carrie being done in any other way, the same can be said for our found footage concept for this musical. I loved the idea of having b-roll in between scenes, I thought it was such a cool concept and it added another layer to our horror musical, I love being in horror musicals so much.

That all being said, goodbye Carrie, I’ll miss the music, the actors, the AMAZING tech, and our incredibly talented directing and production team, I’m so glad I got to meet some of you and work with others of you for the second or third time, I hope in the future we can all work together again another time.

Carrie is the third Stephen King stage show that I’ve witnessed, and the first that I’ve been in. This is a show that I didn’t think I’d be able to do because of all my summer conflicts, but I am so glad and lucky to have been given the opportunity to be in of what I would say is one of the best productions I’ve ever been apart of.

The hard work and professionalism of all my fellow actors, the production team, and our tech crew was not only magical for me to witness, but all our hard work as the well oiled machine we were earned us a FULLY SOLD OUT run and a five star review.

This show has in my opinion the best opening number out of any musical I’ve ever been a part of, “in” does its job and does it well in a way that’s very concise. This is the first musical that I would describe my role as featured ensemble, even though I would describe George as more than that he’s mainly in ensemble numbers which coincidentally are some of the best songs in the show. This is also the third show that I’ve been instructed to catch things while having no depth perception, which I’d like to think I’m getting better at.

I’m so grateful to have been apart of this cast, they blew me away every rehearsal and performance, Carrie will be a show that I will never forget.

Carrie: The Musical
The Roguish Players

The Roguish Players’ production of Carrie: The Musical was one of the boldest and most imaginative shows in recent memory. Staged almost as a fully immersive experience, this horror musical created an atmosphere of palpable anxiety and it was hard not to feel your fight-or-flight instincts kick in during some of the more intense scenes.
Adapted from Stephen King’s novel, the show followed the titular Carrie as she endured the torments of her high school classmates, the abuse of her religiously fanatical mother, and the emergence of a power she was only beginning to understand.
This cast was superlative in every way. Peyton Aronow was heartbreakingly endearing as Carrie White. Her ability to create a character who maintained such grace and strength while delivering raw, powerful vocals and enduring abuse from every corner was astonishing. Jenna Doulong had the challenge of portraying Carrie’s mother, Margaret White--a deeply unsettling and complex villain. Doulong brought remarkable humanity and vulnerability to the character, revealing the layers beneath Margaret’s cruelty and making her feel all the more real and all the more terrifying. Hope Carey served as the quasi-narrator, Sue Snell, the perfect guide to take the audience through this chilling tale, ultimately bringing home its moral: the cost of being unkind can be devastating.
The entire ensemble brought their A-game, adding to the show’s sense of fear and capturing the messy, unforgiving realities of high school. The level of choreography, precision, and spectacle they achieved in such a small venue was incredible.
As theater lovers, one of the things we find most compelling in a show is ambition, and this show had no shortage of it. It took big swings, and they paid off spectacularly. Kay Leigh Nix’s excellent direction cannot be overstated. This production, intricate as it was, unfolded like clockwork, with every detail considered and every choice serving the story. These decisions not only did the source material justice but elevated it.
It was truly a night we will never forget.

TLT was such an amazing show process to be apart of. To have finally directed this show after 2 rejections of the rights by concord is a dream come true. And I’m so happy to have done it with such an amazing cast and crew. All of y’all made this experience so wonderful & fun & whimsical— and it’s genuinely been one of my favorite shows to date.

To everyone who came to see it, I hope you all loved this show as much as my cast, crew and I loved to create it. And thank you all for helping pretty much sell out the house every show, it truly was something I never thought I’d see, but I’m so happy I have.

Thank you all again, and I hope to see you guys very soon doing even more Roguish Shows 🩷

It is incredibly hard to put into words how much R&J&TFM has meant to me as a process, a show, and a story. Ever since I’ve wanted to direct shows, I’ve known that directing one my sister wrote was the goal, and to say I’ve finally checked that box off my list is one of the most incredible things I could possibly say. I’ve felt so incredibly connected with this show since I first fully read it back in my junior year of high school. It’s genuinely such a beautiful piece about creation, living, and loving, and I hope everyone walked away from this with just as much passion for love and art as these characters have.

There was no better cast and crew I could’ve shared this experience with than the one I was gifted. To all of you, thank you, thank you for running with my silly ideas, for trusting me, for laughing with me, and most of all— for loving this show in the same way I have. You all are such incredible performers and people and I truly do hope you all walk away from this experience loving and honoring yourself just a bit more.

And of course, to my sister @maura.pelczynski, thank you for writing this piece, for letting me direct and produce it, and for most of all, being my push to make art. Your love of everything you make and do reminds me over and over just how beautiful creating is, and how we all should love just a bit more. It’s very hard to put into words how much your passion has meant for me, but I hope this was enough.

Welp time for another sappy post ig….

Hadestown has always meant so so much to me, so to get to say that I got to direct it— with such a talented cast too, is insane— and I could never have imagined how beautiful it turned out.

A year ago, when I first founded Roguish— I could never imagine having a cast of this size, or selling over 200 tickets, or even just being able to do a show like this. So to get to see how much my group has grown, is truly life changing, and it’s so hard for me to put into words how much Hadestown specifically has meant to me as a process.

To my entire cast & crew, thank you for trusting me to be your director— for taking my ideas and running with them, and for most of all— making us see the way the world could be. I love you all infinitely, and I truly hope to see you all again at another roguish show in the future.

Goodnight brothers, goodnight.

Man, RTC… what a show. To be honest, after TGWDLM I wasn’t sure if I was going to direct another show— but I’m so happy to say I did, because these casts and crew are some of the most talented and kindest people I’ve ever met in my life.

Both casts (even those in the jawbreaker who did not get to perform) brought so much life into these characters, and I’m endlessly proud of all they’ve accomplished over these 5 months of crazy rehearsals.

This show itself has taught me so much about loving life and loving the experiences within it, i truly think it has changed me for the better, and I’m so glad to say that I got to direct it 🩷

I cant wait for what the summer has in store for Roguish Players, and I hope you all will join me on this crazy journey once again.

And thank you all for completing my rainbow 🫶
