We’re excited to share that Meeras Pavilion received a Gold Award in the social impact category of the 2026 Australian Good Design Awards!

Meeras pavilion celebrates Rohingya stories and builds awareness and care for the world’s largest stateless people. Co-designed over three years and three countries, Meeras weaves traditional crafts with interactive lights and sounds to create an immersive space for diverse communities to gather and strengthen a culture at threat of erasure. The pavilion was installed in the prominent place of Sydney’s Customs House Square in 2025 for Art & About and activated through 10 days of cultural and community events. A creative online campaign amplified the stories, established a global symbol for Rohingya advocacy and reached over 20million viewers.

This year’s Awards are presented under the theme Design that Leads - celebrating the critical role of design in navigating complexity, driving innovation and creating positive change.

A RED CARPET FOR THE MAN ACCUSED OF PERSECUTING THE ROHINGYA

The man responsible for the 2017 #Rohingyagenocide, the subject of an ICC arrest warrant application, and the key figure behind Myanmar’s 2021 military coup, is now receiving a red-carpet welcome from Malaysia’s leadership during a two-day official visit.

Meanwhile, forces under his command continue to be accused of committing grave human rights violations and atrocities against civilians across Myanmar.

For the Rohingya community, this is not simply a diplomatic visit.

Min Aung Hlaing is the military leader under whose command Myanmar’s security forces carried out the brutal 2017 campaign that drove more than 700,000 Rohingya into Bangladesh.

Today, while communities across Myanmar continue to suffer from grave violations and atrocities, the man at the centre of Myanmar’s military leadership is being welcomed at the highest level in Malaysia.

For Rohingya survivors, this raises a painful question:

Where is the humanity?
Where is the accountability?

Diplomatic engagement must never mean forgetting victims.

The Rohingya are watching.
The world is watching.
