Outside!

We set ourselves a goal of riding 50 km in under 3 hours, so we packed a little extra water for this one. Alex added a bladder to his Deuter AC Lite 30, and Jess carried two bottles in the front of her Deuter Traick 5 running vest.

It was really handy being able to grab a drink without stopping, especially when we were trying to keep a decent pace.

And we got our 50 km done in under 3 hours!

Some places stop you in your tracks. Assiniboine is one of them.

We stayed at the Naiset Huts, flew in by helicopter, and it was one of the best family adventures we’ve ever done.

A few things you need to know if you’re planning this for 2027:

🎟️ Spots are extremely limited and it all comes down to timing. Swipe to slide 7 for the exact booking dates.

🚁 We flew in by helicopter. Yes, it costs more. But arriving fresh with kids meant we were hiking trails the same afternoon we landed.

🏠 Naiset Huts = cozy beds, a roof, warmth. No tent setup after travel. We woke up and walked straight to the lake.

🥾 Trails for kids of every age. Our kids hiked every single day.

Save this post because you’ll want it when planning season hits in January.

Follow along because we do the research so you don’t have to.

On the plus side, there were way fewer crowds today. Even if the larches were mostly covered in snow ❄️😬

Happy Birthday Jess!

I love that you're always up for an adventure, but what I love most is that I get to share this life with you. There's nobody else I'd rather be out exploring with, and nobody else I'd rather come home to.

Love you, Jess.

Ps. Yes I know this music is a bit much and not our usual Tents and Timber music, but if you know Jess then you know this would be her first choice in music, hahaha. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Some people show up to volunteer. And then there are people who SHOW UP. 💛
.
This season, we wanted to recognize one team member who has gone above and beyond for our events, and our Platinum Race Partner, DEUTER Running Vests & Backpacks, was quick to jump in and help us celebrate him.
.
Rick Latta has put countless hours into supporting all 7 of our events this season. From long multiple days, early mornings, aid stations, timing, hauling gear, sweeping race courses, helping behind the scenes and simply being someone we know we can count on — Rick has been there.
.
There are so many pieces that go into putting on these events that racers never see, and volunteers like Rick are a huge part of what makes race day possible.
.
So, Rick, this one is for you. ❤️

Thanks to @deuter Rick will be receiving a DEUTER prize package as a little recognition for the very BIG contribution he has made to our race community this season.

Rick, we appreciate the heck out of you. Thank you for everything you have done for BB&Bro’s and our racers this year! .
And a huge thank you to DEUTER Running Vests & Backpacks — Platinum Race Partners for helping us recognize one of our incredible people.

Choosing the right carrier with Deuter and @roirecreation.

With River now two and Aspen five, we’ve found Deuter to be the best carrier option for helping us continue taking on bigger family hiking days.

After a full season of testing them side by side, the biggest difference is simple:
The Active SL is the lighter, more compact choice.
The Pro is the more supportive, fully featured choice-and our favourite for carrying an older child on long days.
Both carriers have the same 18 kg child weight limit, but their adult fit, back systems, storage, hydration options and included accessories are quite different.

Our full comparison blog covers:
• Fit and adjustability
• Carrier weight and limits
• Storage and hydration
• Sun and rain protection
• Included accessories
• Comfort with older kids
• Which model we would choose

When Aspen is hiking on her own, she also loves carrying her Deuter Junior Kids Outdoor Backpack-because apparently everyone in the family needs their own Deuter pack!
