A Film That Touches the Heart: COMPARSA 🎬❤️

The Guatemalan Chamber of Commerce in New York had the honor of being cordially invited to the screening of COMPARSA, a film shot in Ciudad Peronia, Guatemala, that tells the story of two young Guatemalan women who use art and energetic public performances to heal, transform their community, and spread a message of hope.

Through dance, music, poetry, giant puppets, fire, and radical joy, COMPARSA shows us that even in the midst of pain, art can become a powerful tool for healing, resistance, and social transformation.

Without a doubt, this is a production that touches the heart and leaves us with a profound life lesson. Its message is valuable for adults, but especially for our young people, who need to hear stories that remind them that they have a voice, that their experiences matter, and that there is always a possibility of transforming their reality.

Congratulations to Leslie, Lupe Pérez, all the directors, and the entire production team for giving us such an extraordinary screening, filled with sensitivity, courage, and hope!

Thank you for sharing this story born in Guatemala with the world. It reminds us that art not only transforms lives but can also pave the way toward a more compassionate, conscious, and violence-free society.

May the message of COMPARSA continue to cross borders, inspire hearts, and encourage new generations to become agents of change! 🇬🇹❤️👏

Last night marked the world theatrical premiere of COMPARSA at @dctvny in NYC! 🦋 (Español abajo)

It was so special to finally get to share the film with our NYC community. The room was full of warmth and love, with plenty of tears and hugs.

Huge thanks to @daraexplara of DCTV for her warm introduction to the film, to @anacntv for translation, and to @tabrahams for moderating our panel with @rolelaspapas, @vickiecur and @dougafresh. Tara is head of impact at @themeteor and serves on the board of @girlrising, our longstanding partner.

So much of our NYC post-production team came out to celebrate: the @giganticstudios sound team (re-recording mixer and sound supervisor @andresmarthe, Foley editor @leadessart, sound effects editor @aim01181, assistant sound editor @camille.laffond), colorist @lennymastrandrea of Nice Shoes, and web developer @__sara.jpg.

And a surprise: the @guatemala_chamberof_commerceny, led by Linda Vega, honored Lesli with a certificate of recognition.

We’re just getting warmed up! Six more days of screenings, including three more Q&As this weekend with Lesli, the star of the film, moderated by @revmicahb, @pivita.gt and @vdlsanford2023. Join us! Link in bio.
